Dear Friends,

As I began working on this first Reflection of the school year, my thoughts turned to Summer, wondering what happened to the days that seemed to just disappear, leaving me thinking of all the things I had planned to do that never quite happened. I have no regrets . . . just plans put on hold for another time.

To be honest, I was really having trouble in deciding what I wanted to say to you as we begin this new year. So much trouble, in fact, that I decided to take a break and see what I could find on TV. As I was scrolling through the channel guide, I saw an old movie from the 90’s, a time period that to me doesn’t seem like that long ago, and decided to check it out. As I began watching, I found myself losing interest . . . I remembered every scene and even some of the dialogue and knew exactly how it would end. This break was exactly what I needed! So . . .

“School Year 2025-2026: The Adventure Begins”

This is our movie, and we each have our roles to play. We share the spotlight with an amazing cast of characters from all age groups and all walks of life. We may have no idea of what each scene, each day, will bring, but isn’t that part of the excitement? We are given the possibility of truly making this production a success, the very best it could be, something to remember and to be proud of. While we may not know the entire plot or the various bumps in the road along the way, we do know that we are never in this production alone. We are in this together, offering support and encouragement, care and concern, guidance and direction.

And speaking of guidance and direction, our God’s Presence is always with us: An amazing Producer Who oversees all aspects of the project, a Producer Who created and loves and sponsors us in every scene; an amazing Director Who guides and supports and carries us along the way, a Director Who continually calls us to give our best to every scene and to be all that we were meant to be, a Director Who makes sure that everything is coming together before the final cut, truly bringing our movie to life.

This is our movie, my friends. We call “Action!” and our adventure begins. As we stand here at the beginning, we have no idea where the journey will lead us; but we begin with a real excitement at what this time will hold for us. In working together in our various roles, we pray that the final product will be a true reflection of this excitement, this initial vision. So as I close my first reflection of the school year, please know how thankful I am for each of you and for the many roles you play in making Benilde-St. Margaret’s the amazing place that it is. Always know how greatly you are loved and remembered in thought and in prayer. Until next time . . .

Love and Prayers,
Mike J
