Win, lose, or tie, one thing remains true no matter how cliché it may sound: teamwork makes the dream work. This fall sports season, Red Knights are not only enjoying themselves during their matches, games, races, and meets, but are also enjoying the company they surround themselves with at practice everyday. As seasons come to a close, BSM's fall Minnesota State High School League athletic teams are hopeful for a great postseason after much success already.

Boys' Cross Country

BSM boys' cross country had a triumphant start to the season. "Overall, it's been good," says coach Zach Zimny. "We've had a good turnout. People are working hard at practice, and we've put in probably more miles this season than any other season." The Red Knights look to finish the season strong leading up to their section race at the end of October.

Girls' Cross Country

BSM girls' cross country has had a strong season so far. With so many new members joining the team this year, a great new team dynamic has formed. "The 2022 cross country season has had an amazing start to it," says team captain Izzy Garvin '23. Captain Avery Nientimp '23 added "It's thrilling to see how far we've come only halfway into the season. We've grown so much as a team, and continue to encourage one another in any way we can." As the season runs by quickly, the team is looking ahead to their section race at the end of October.

With only a few games left, BSM boys' soccer is just warming up. Despite a tighter season that anticipated, student manager Joe Aamoth '23 says "all of our losses have been right from start to finish." With only a few games left in the regular season, the Red Knights are working towards some future wins as they look forward to sections and possibly the state tournament. "All the players and coaches truly believe this team has the potential to win the whole thing," finished Aamoth.

Red Knight girls' soccer has had a promising season so far as they look ahead to section play. Many new players on the team have changed the team for the better. "We have a really good team dynamic. The mix of the younger players with the older players has worked out really well," says team captain Kayla Smart '23. The team is looking forward with confidence to section competition and is hopeful for success in the remainder of their season.

Girls' Tennis

Red Knight girls' tennis has had a beautiful fall season, both on the score sheet and weather-wise (not a single match rained out!). The team had a steady regular season, winning 15 of 20 matches, earning them the title of Metro West conference champions for the seventh straight year. Four new players were welcomed to the team this fall, which is led by captains Annika Olson '25, Lauren and Brooke Kallas '23, and Sophia Salmon '23. "The team spirit is through the roof," Lauren Kallas noted. The Red Knights have already began section play and hope to continue their success.

Football

The BSM football team has had a challenging season this year, but is hoping to redeem themselves throughout the remainder of their games. At the start of the season, the team participated in fun events with the "mom's clinic" and "dads and decals" events, further building upon the strong bond that is the BSM community.

Girls' Swim & Dive

The girls' swim and dive team has had a pleasant season so far. Besides already winning multiple meets, one of their biggest accomplishments is consistently improving their times at every meet. Team captains Lauren Benedict '23, Caroline Forste '23, Claire Prindiville '23, and Alexis Murphy '23 have brought the team together this year through school spirit, creating a strong team dynamic. The Red Knights look forward to competing in more meets and bonding as a team as the season continues.

Girls' Volleyball

BSM girls' volleyball has been enjoying a fun season. "Everyone had a really positive outlook going into the season, and so far I'd say we are meeting the expectations we set," said captain Michaela Dooley '23, who added that the team had "multiple goals during pre-season, the most important and challenging being making it to the state tournament." The Red Knights have appreciated the support of their fellow classmates and love to play in a packed Haben Center on game days.

Benilde-St Margaret’s is proud to have a robust athletics program and is honored to work with student-athletes throughout the course of the fall season as games are won and lost, teamwork is built, and memories are made. Go Red Knights!
