State-Bound on the Slopes

Benilde St. Margaret’s Alpine Skiing had a standout performance at the MSHSL Section 5A meet, with two Red Knights earning individual qualifications to the MSHSL State Meet in one of the most competitive sections in Minnesota.

BSM’s athletes rose to the challenge at the MSHSL Section 5A meet with poise, grit, and an unmistakable sense of team pride. While alpine skiing is often viewed as an individual sport, the Red Knights competed as a united group throughout the day, supporting one another from the first run to the final finish. That team-first mindset was on full display at the end of the long competition day, when the entire squad stayed to help slip and clean the race venue.

"They represented BSM wonderfully," said Coach John Gleason. "They showed up as a true team in what is typically an individual sport."

Several skiers made their Section Meet debut, gaining valuable experience on a demanding course and representing BSM in front of hundreds of spectators. Their hard work throughout the season earned them a place on this stage, and their composure reflected the strength of the program. 

Leading the way were two individual State qualifiers. Mackenzie Gleason '27 battled through the meet while racing on an injured ankle, delivering the 10th- and 15th-fastest runs of the day to secure her spot at State. This marks her second consecutive individual State qualification.

Rainier Gilliss '26 also earned a State ticket with a strong, steady performance, navigating a challenging first-run course and following it up with a confident second run to qualify individually.
