Red Knotes Make School History

Red Knotes Make School History

Congratulations to the Red Knotes on their 3rd place finish at the International Championship of High School A Cappella (ICHSA) quarterfinals competition. This is the first time in school history that the BSM a cappella group placed at the ICHSA, a remarkable step forward for our Red Knotes singers.

Bianca Mojica '23 awarded Outstanding Soloist

Bianca Mojica ‘23 received the outstanding soloist award for her remarkable performance in “All for Us,” the same award her sister, Nadya Mojica ‘20 won her senior year. “Winning the award was a really gratifying experience because my older sister Nadya actually won that same award when she was a senior and I was a freshman,” said Mojica. "I remember being on stage with her when she won that award and the fact that she was there to watch me win it last weekend in my final year in the group was so sweet."

This year’s Varsity Vocals ICHSA competition was held on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Southwest Christian High School in Chaska, MN. The competition showcases the art of student a cappella singing, providing groups with valuable feedback from judges.

The Red Knotes performed three songs in their ICHSA set:

  • “Ghost” with lead vocalist Audrey Taylor ‘24
  • “Everybody” with lead vocalist Lance Hoover ‘23
  • All of Us” with lead vocalist Bianca Mojica ‘23

Leading up to the quarterfinals, the Red Knotes put in hard work and incredible dedication between early morning practices, late-night choreography rehearsals, and practices at home. "Red Knotes have worked unbelievably hard this year. We hit a new level of both intense vocals and movement with an exceptional commitment I have not seen in a very long time, said Ryan Werdon, BSM choir teacher. “It was so exciting to see them place for the first time in school history and I couldn't be more proud."

BSM’s newest a capella group, the MidKnights also performed at the ICHSA quarterfinals. The group made their debut on the Hamburge stage during the 4th Annual Twin Cities Acapella Festival hosted at BSM on Saturday, January 28, 2023. "I am so proud of our new a cappella group ‘MidKnights.' None of these students have ever participated in the ICHSA competition before but they performed fearlessly and did an exceptional job,” said Werdon. “They also created all of the choreography within the group led by Nelle Teitscheid ‘25."

We’re #BSMProud of how incredibly hard our Red Knotes and MidKnights have worked and look forward to the rest of their performances this year!
