Congratulations are in order for the BSM baseball team, which advanced to the 2024 Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) State Baseball Tournament!
The team is making its third straight trip to the state tournament, looking to bring home another championship for the program. The Red Knights captured their first state title in 2022.
“I'm really proud of the leadership by our seniors - the captains do a nice job of including everyone and leading by example,” said head coach Andy Judkins, “The team is excited to get back to state. There is a determination to go deeper and not settle this year, and they get along by supporting each other.”
The team played in a double elimination tournament, defeating Minneapolis Henry 20-0 on May 28, then Orono 6-5 on May 30, and Delano 10-0 on June 1. By winning these three games, BSM captured the winner’s bracket and played the winner of the elimination bracket, Delano. On Thursday, June 6, Delano defeated the Red Knights by a score of 0-2, setting up a championship game on Friday, June 7 to determine who would represent the Section 6AAA champion for 2024.
The Red Knight prevailed by a score of 6-3 and played in the Class 3A State Quarterfinal on Thursday, June 13. They defeated St. Thomas Academy 6-5. In the semifinal round, the Red Knights lost 0-2 to Totino-Grace.
