Red Knights Reign: Four-Peat for BSM Girls' Basketball

Benilde-St. Margaret’s capped off another historic season on Saturday, March 14, 2026, securing the MSHSL Class AAA State Championship with a 75-63 victory over Stewartville. The win marks the Red Knights’ fourth consecutive state title, further cementing their place as one of Minnesota’s premier high school basketball programs.

BSM delivered a strong performance on both ends of the court in the championship game, pulling away in the second half to seal the double-digit win. Leading the charge was Sydney Friedly, who finished with 24 points, five rebounds, and five assists in a standout all-around effort.

In the post-game press conference, Friedly emphasized the broader community behind the team’s run, acknowledging the support that has fueled the Red Knights throughout their championship streak.

Following the game, head coach Tim Ellefson reflected on the significance of the program’s sustained success and the players who helped build it.

“It’s incredible to win four,” Ellefson told Minnesota Star Tribune. “I go back to the first year and the seniors we had. We talked about this is a start of something special. You look at our future success, whatever that looks like, you’ll be a big part of it.”

“The reason behind all of our success is how much love we have for each other,” BSM junior Pressley Watkins said. “How much love we have for our seniors playing for them. Playing selfless and playing for each other just builds that family bond that’s going to stay for life.”

With four straight state titles, BSM continues to set the standard in Class AAA, building a legacy defined by talent, teamwork, and a commitment to excellence.
