The BSM girls' basketball team is headed back to the State tournament!

Benilde-St. Margaret's punched their ticket to State after winning the MSHSL Section 6AAA Girls' Basketball Championship with a 77-66 victory over Orono.

BSM enters the MSHSL Class AAA State Tournament with an extraordinary track record. Riding a three state title streak, the Red Knights look to continue that tradition as they return to the University of Minnesota Williams Arena this week.

Head coach and BSM math teacher Tim Ellefson credits the team's energy and commitment to improvement as key factors in this year's success. "Our players that are new to our roster bring great energy to the program," he said.

What sets this team apart is their speed and quick decision-making, leaving their opponents playing catch up. "This team is built on playing fast. Other teams typically can't keep up with the pace at which we operate," said Coach Ellefson. "Our communication on the court, our understanding of what winning consists of, and the way every player accepts her role has had a tremendous impact on this season."

The Red Knights have turned their attention to the State tournament as they aim to expand their championship streak. BSM faces off with Rock Ridge on March 11, 2026 at 2 p.m. in the University of Minnesota Maturi Pavillion.
