The BSM girls’ ultimate frisbee team triumphed at the 2024 Minnesota High School State Championship, securing the Division 2 State title with an undefeated 6-0 record. Despite challenging rain and wind conditions, the team showcased their skill and determination throughout the tournament held June 1-2 at the National Sports Center in Blaine, MN.
"It is always amazing to see the players come together and be better friends, teammates, and people as we grow during the season," said heach coach John Groess. "Ending the season on a high note, going 6-0, and winning division 2 state is a great feeling, but more the cherry on top. It is a byproduct of them coming together as a team, and it allowed us to play our best in the adverse weather conditions at the end of the season. Very proud of girls' Red Knight ultimate."
The girls' ultimate program started in the spring of 2016. Before that, the girls played on the boys' team as they didn't have enough players to make a complete roster themselves. In 2017, the team had just seven girls, the minimum needed to play. Now, BSM is one of the largest teams in the state, with a varsity and JV program totaling around 50 players. BSM is one of four teams in the state with a JV program, demonstrating the strong team culture that encourages many players to try a new sport when they come to BSM.
The Red Knights won the conference championship in the spring of 2022 and have built on that success to win the Division 2 State title this year.
In the semifinals, the Red Knights defeated St. Louis Park with a decisive 10-5 victory. They then dominated the finals, overpowering Cretin-Derham Hall 6-1 to claim the championship.
Shelby Loberg ‘24 and Audrey Pohl ‘25 were recognized for their performances, earning individual accolades for their contributions.
Congratulations to the Red Knights on their remarkable achievement, we are #BSMProud!
