Over 700 grandparents and 400 students gathered at BSM Friday, Oct. 7, 2022, in celebration of BSM’s Grandparents’ Day, a special event that included a shared Mass and breakfast. Grandparents serve an important role in the BSM family, cheering on and supporting their grandchildren throughout their lives. “It's very special and significant for us to have all of you here today at BSM,” said BSM President Meghan DesLauriers ’99 as she addressed the crowd.

Attendees voiced a similar sentiment. “It's a meaningful time that we get to share with our grandparents in a special place,” noted current student Sydney Peterson ’27. “We don’t get to see our grandparents too often, and for them to see where we go to school and spend time together is so great. My favorite part was just being able to spend time with them and celebrate Mass together,” she said.

Cordelia Wolf’s ’23 grandparents, Dave and Carol Teclaw, have been to this event with three of their older grandchildren who are now BSM alumni, and now it’s Cordelia’s moment. “We enjoyed watching her in choir and seeing the joy that she gets from being in choir,” they said.

Grandparents' Day is a special occasion and a chance for grandparents to revisit their high school since many families often have generations of Benilde High School, St. Margaret's Academy, and Benilde-St. Margaret's graduates.

“I love the part of just being able to talk to my grandpa and just have time to show him around BSM and where I spend so much of my time,” said Annie Libbey ’23. Her grandpa, Steve Alcorn, said, “I love being able to spend this time with my grandkids. BSM has always been a special place for our family. All of my kids went here, and now so do some of their kids.” Many students gave tours around the school, pointing out their lockers and favorite classes.

“I thought it was really cool to be able to see everyone else’s grandparents celebrating together with their families, and it was just a very wholesome experience,” Ruby Wohlrabe ’23 stated. “I also thought it was beautiful to celebrate Mass together with everyone. It was a very good experience to help bring BSM together,” she said.

There was a shared sense of pride from grandparents and students alike throughout the event. BSM’s gratitude goes out to everyone who helped make Grandparents' Day possible as well as to the amazing grandparents who celebrated on campus, those who couldn't make it, and the ones who will always be in the hearts of BSM community members.
