On Tuesday, April 18, 100 BSM French students joined more than 500 students from 13 other metro area schools participating in the annual A Vous la Parole French contest at the University of Minnesota.
“We were so eager to return to A Vous la Parole as we hadn’t competed since 2019 due to COVID-19,” said Amy Jo Hyde ‘88, junior and senior high French teacher. “It was wonderful to see the students using the language and having fun, performing songs in French on stage before hundreds of other students.”
BSM students participated in a variety of comprehension levels, from Level One through Advanced Placement, competing in the Large Group Song Category, earning second place medals (French I and French II, second hour) and third place medals (French II, eighth hour; French III, both hours). Students were rated based on a four-star system, competing in categories including prose and poetry recitations, theater presentations, song performances, extemporaneous reading, conversation, and original skits.
Sponsored by the Minnesota Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of French, the annual contest provides BSM world language students with an opportunity to apply their French-speaking skills and receive assessments for their fluency and comprehension.
