Freshman Peter Streit was featured on KARE11 News on Thursday, April 11 for his involvement with Children's Minnesota. After being diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2023, Peter underwent extensive care in the hospital's pediatric healthcare system.
Peter is active in school and enjoys being part of the BSM community. “Our counselors and teachers were kept informed by Peter's parents of his progress after surgery and then met with them and Peter after his return to school,” Counselor Amanda Anderson explained. “We wanted to ensure Peter would be successful throughout his recovery period and receive the care and accommodations needed after the operation. It's been wonderful having Peter back on campus with his friends and classmates.”
During the spring award ceremony on Thursday, April 4, Peter was recognized for his 'exceptional resilience, compassion, and creative problem-solving skills despite facing significant challenges. Throughout this school year, Peter has displayed remarkable courage and has confronted each obstacle with a strength that has inspired his teachers, our staff, and his peers.
On Saturday, April 13, Peter will serve as a youth ambassador for Children's Minnesota's Star Gala at The Depot in downtown Minneapolis. Star Gala 2024 is benefitting the Children's Minnesota Neurosciences Program. He's raised over $2,200 including a generous $200 donation from BSM's Caring for the Courageous club.
Watch Peter share his inspiring story in a KARE-11 interview, and consider making a donation on his behalf to support the life-changing work of Children's Minnesota.
