Two members of Benilde-St. Margaret’s graduating class of 2024 will be enrolling at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point beginning in the fall. Seniors Gus Bell and Siena Carver were recently honored with a special ceremony at BSM in recognition of their acceptance into the Academy’s program. Joining them at West Point will be Adam Marshall, a member of BSM’s Class of 2022.
“We cannot be more proud of these three,” said Stephanie Nitchals, BSM senior high principal. “They work hard and give their all, and now they will be serving our country. Congratulations!”
On behalf of the Academy, Jeffrey Olson, a member of the West Point admissions field force presented the letters of acceptance to Bell and Carver on May 21 before a gathering of family, classmates, and BSM faculty & staff. “Over 12,000 people apply to the Academy every year, and only 1,200 are accepted into this illustrious program. For BSM to have three graduates enrolled says a lot about your school and these students in particular.”
Originally established as a fort during the American Revolutionary War, the Academy is located in West Point, NY overlooking the Hudson River. It is the oldest of the five service academies that educates cadets for commissioning into the United States Army and is considered the premiere military academy.
In addition to the three BSM alums accepted to the US Military Academy at West Point, four other members of the Class of 2024 are entering service for our nation:
- Audrey Buss will be attending North Dakota State University and enrolled in the Army ROTC program
- Jason Burnside is enlisting in the U.S. Marines
- Simon McMahon is enlisting in the U.S. Army
- James Ehmiller is enrolled in the Army ROTC program at St. John’s University as part of the Fighting Saints Battalion
“BSM is honored by the dedication of these Red Knights who will give of their time for our nation,” Nitchals remarked, adding, “They reflect the commitment of all BSM students to serve and contribute in meaningful ways to our global society.”
On Friday, May 31, Benilde-St. Margaret’s will conduct its 50th Commencement Exercises, presenting diplomas to the 218 members of the Class of 2024.
