The Benilde-St. Margaret's boys' golf team is returning to the Class AAA State Tournament after a hard-fought victory at the Section 6 meet, held at The Meadows at Mystic Lake. The Red Knights edged Edina by just two strokes, finishing with a team score of 579.

The boys' team won't be the only Red Knights competing at state. Alyssa Raghuveer '26 qualified for the third consecutive year after winning the girls' section title at The Meadows for the second straight season.

For the boys, a sudden lineup change occurred the night before the first round at Sections, when Patrick Hastings '26 was ruled out due to a thumb injury. MJ Pulcanio '27 was called up last minute and delivered a critical performance, shooting an even-par 72 to help BSM take a five-stroke lead after the first day.

Day two presented more challenges. The Red Knights struggled early and Edina took the lead after nine holes. However, the Red Knights rallied on the back nine to secure the win. Colin Hastings '27 led all competitors with a two-day total of 141. Braydon Pulcanio '26 and Cade Callan '26 both tied for fourth with scores of 145. Strong contributions from the rest of the lineup helped clinch the team’s return to the state tournament.

“It was a great team effort and an amazing comeback,” said head coach Dave Herbst.

For Alyssa Raghuveer, this will be her third year in a row of making it to the MSHSL State Tournament - a feat made possible through hard word, consistent play, and efficiency on the course.

“It’s never expected, but it’s not surprising that Alyssa is going back for a third straight year,” said girls’ coach Mike Johnston. “She is playing arguably her best golf of the season right now and has a real chance to be at the top of the leaderboard.”

Both the boys team and Raghuveer will compete at the Class AAA State Tournament on June 10 and 11 at Bunker Hills Golf Club, Coon Rapids, MN.
