The Benilde-St. Margaret's girls' volleyball team finished the 2022 season on Saturday, Nov. 12 receiving the second place trophy in the MSHSL State Tournament after falling 0-3 to the Class AAA Champion, Marshall High School Tigers.

"We are so incredibly proud of the team and all they were able to accomplish this season," said Michael Becker, head coach. "I can't say we really knew what kind of history we'd be making this season. Our goal at the beginning of the season was to make it to the state tournament, but making it for the first time since 1983, and making it to the first ever State Championship game in school history is something that these girls can be proud of for the rest of their lives."

The Red Knights fought hard in each match as students, faculty, alumni, and board members cheered them on at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

Elizabeth Eigner '23 and Michaela Dooley '24 were named to the All-Tournament team for their outstanding play and teamwork during the State Tournament.

"We knew this was a special group of players from the day they walked into tryouts. Their dedication, never-quit attitude, and team-first mentality drove them all season long. Many times throughout the postseason journey this team was seemingly down and out, but they fought back and earned their way to their 2nd place finish at the AAA tournament," Coach Becker said, adding, "We congratulate Coach Dan Westby and the Marshall Tigers on their dominant season - they are truly a program that deserves all of their success! A huge thank you to all of our parents, students, faculty and staff, and all of our fans who supported us this season! We truly believe we won't be waiting another 40 years to make it back to the X, and we can't wait to get started on that journey next fall!"

BSM congratulates the Girls' varsity volleyball team for their effort, teamwork, and integrity as student athletes and an outstanding season. We're BSM proud of you!
