A Message at the Close of the School Year

A Message at the Close of the School Year

Dear families and friends of BSM:

Summer has arrived! The end of the school year is always bittersweet: an opportunity to look back on a myriad of successes and accomplishments, but also a moment when we send our seniors off to new adventures.

This year, our 50th year as Benilde-St. Margaret’s, was a particular reminder to look back on the storied legacy of this community to see how far we have come while remaining ever true to who we are.

One of the things I love most about working in a school is the cadence of the year. We started in August with all things new: friends and schedules, clubs and activities.

We welcomed friends and alumni back to campus for ‘The Golden Journey’ celebration at the start of the year, hearing stories about the past and sharing more about what we are doing today to ensure students continue to receive a distinctive BSM education.

As the year progressed, things settled into that familiar rhythm we all recall from our own school days, punctuated by state title runs, dances, performances, Masses, convocations, and the everyday successes and challenges that define the middle and high school years.

Now we find ourselves at the end.

Yet the end is also full of newness: new adventures for our graduates, of course, but also for all of our students going off to learn and grow in new ways during the summer months.

For our faculty and staff, we begin the cycle again, planning for new students, new courses, and new opportunities to continue to grow and innovate as a community.

As I close out my first full year as president, I am overwhelmed by the pride and gratitude I feel for our Red Knight community. I am so proud of this place: the community we create and recreate each year as we welcome new students home to BSM, committing ourselves to the holy vocation of providing a holistic, Catholic education for these young people.

And I am so incredibly grateful: for the faculty and staff who I have the privilege of working shoulder to shoulder with, the parents and caregivers who trust us with their sons and daughters, and the alumni and benefactors who provide us with the support and resources to continue building the legacy of BSM, including over $500,000 on our most recent Day of Giving.

Know of my prayers for you and your family in the summer months ahead. I pray they will be restful and refreshing, full of meaningful time and memories made with family and friends.

We are already hard at work planning for an incredible 2024-2025 school year and cannot wait to welcome you back home to BSM!

For our graduates and families, please visit often for games and plays and just to walk the halls to visit your favorite teachers. As an alum myself, I can assure you that BSM will always welcome you back with open arms.

Once a Red Knight, always a Red Knight,

Danielle Hermanny '03
President
