National Honor Society (NHS) is a group that recognizes students for their excellence. It is not all about grades and schoolwork. NHS focuses on four pillars, scholarship, leadership, service, and character. There are many requirements for students to be accepted into the NHS. 25 service hours, 10 leadership hours, and a character essay. Each student admitted into NHS received positive feedback from BSM teachers. Once inducted, students need to fulfill some responsibilities, including tutoring and service hours. NHS members tutor other students as a form of leadership and service to the BSM community.

On Wednesday, Oct. 22, 43 juniors and seniors were inducted into the BSM chapter of National Honors Society. This is important to the academic careers of these students and shows their commitment to show leadership and service throughout the BSM community.

Being inducted into NHS is more than just an academic achievement, it also shows how each student wants to make a positive difference in their community. Their actions can serve as an example for younger students to do the same, but also to show the core values of NHS, scholarship, leadership, service, and character.

During this event, Will Krusemark ‘26 and Patrick McDonald ‘26 were named presidents of the BSM National Honors Society chapter. As presidents, their role has a bigger responsibility. They have to complete extra service and tutoring hours and maintain a 4.0 GPA. Other leadership roles were named this day as well, such as the vice-president, tutor chairs, and secretary. Each of these roles are held to higher standards to showcase their leadership.

Alena Paulson, advisor of BSM’s NHS chapter, said, “These students not only work incredibly hard, but do the above and beyond to support their communities and peers.” She enjoys helping these students reach their full potential because she gets to support the growth of young adults at BSM, and see them transform into dedicated leaders that are ready for collegiate life.

NHS is an important part of the BSM community because we are able to see how students can rise up and lead others. We want to congratulate the new NHS members and the returning members on their accomplishments, and we are excited to see what they will accomplish together.
