BSM Blog: Christmas and The Gift of Faith

Best Christmas, worst Christmas, all at once. It was December 25, 2009. Our two daughters, age 19 and 21 were home from college for Christmas, and we were enjoying our long-standing family tradition of opening presents that were left by Santa Claus. My husband’s father, Norman Skinner was 85 and had been battling cancer for a while, fighting hard but slowly losing ground each day.

Red Knights on a Mission

Red Knights on a Mission

The people of Guatemala are near and dear to many a Red Knight. On July 8, 38 Red Knights and six BSM teachers will be embarking on a mission trip to build the Kingdom of God in Antigua, Guatemala. Each summer, BSM teams up with The God’s Child Project (GCP) to build homes for poverty-stricken families in Guatemala. This summer’s trip will be most extraordinary given the aftermath of the recent significant eruptions of the Fuego Volcano June 3.

Good Friday – A Necessary Step on the Journey

Good Friday – A Necessary Step on the Journey

“Yet it was our infirmities that he bore, our sufferings that he endured, while we thought of him as stricken, as one smitten by God and afflicted.
But he was pierced for our offenses, crushed for our sins; upon him was the chastisement that makes us whole, by his stripes we were healed.
We had all gone astray like sheep, each following his own way, but the Lord laid upon him the guilt of us all.”
-Isaiah 53:4-6

Power & Importance of Prayer

You have probably seen the hashtags and the social media posts, and it’s hard to miss the TV coverage related to the student initiated walkouts in support of better laws about guns and more help for students who are suffering. It is heartbreaking to know that the impetus behind these public, peaceful student-led walkouts are the senseless deaths of so many young people around the country. This keeps me up at night.

Developing Faith at BSM

Since 1974, for one week in the middle of winter, Catholic Schools and their communities across the United States have celebrated Catholic Schools Week. The intent is to laud the entirety of our Catholic Schools, specifically how they impact both the individual and greater society. At Benilde-St. Margaret’s, this week has been filled with celebrations of our unique community. Our students acknowledged our parents with car-side service of coffee and donuts.
