Common Basket is a well-rounded approach to philanthropy, emphasizing a balance of sharing time, talent and treasure. Based on an approach to philanthropy developed by the Christian Brothers, BSM's Common Basket utilizes an educational component about a local, national, or international justice issue while giving the students an opportunity to discern their role of giving to help those less fortunate.

St. John Baptist De La Salle challenges each teacher to help each and every student reach their highest potential. At BSM that happens through the extensive professional development offered to teachers. We also facilitate a Parent Affinity group which is a task advisory group for parents of students of color that partners with the school on initiatives that propel our diversity, equity and inclusion plan forward. It provides opportunities for community building and networking.

The Sisters of St. Joseph urge us to move from the center where we are comfortable to the margins of vulnerability. Through this required junior theology course, students will deepen and broaden their understanding of the Gospel message and the Church’s social teaching. Students will learn how Christ’s concern for others, especially the poor and vulnerable, is present today in the Church’s mission. Learning about the cycles of poverty and injustice that keep people oppressed, students will discern their roles in service to others. This understanding is further reinforced through service at a local service site selected in collaboration with the students' teacher.

The largest co-curricular program at the school, RKVC has over 500 student members. This program centers on student volunteers working in the community where they gain experience from a variety of volunteer opportunities including time in hospitals and nursing homes to helping children with special needs.

Caring for the Courageous is a BSM club that fundraises and creates gift bags consisting of blankets, stuffed animals, art supplies, and fidgets for kids in children's hospitals around the Twin Cities. Our mission is to provide comfort and a smile to children with health challenges.

In the sustainability club, members discuss environmental issues that impact the world around us. Students complete projects at BSM and in the surrounding community such as tree planting, phone drives, and more. The club also creates awareness within the BSM community on how each of us can be more sustainable in our own lives such as merely downloading and searching on Ecosia to plant trees.

Red Knights for Social Justice is open to all students in grades 7-12. This club was founded to create awareness of current social justice issues in the community and devise a plan of action to work for social change.

Each year, the Benilde-St. Margaret's community participates in a service immersion to Guatemala where students and chaperones help create a home for a local family. The service immersion provides students with an opportunity to contribute meaningfully by giving their time and talent to help others.
