A Time to Start Over and Reset

A Time to Start Over and Reset

A Time to Start Over and Reset

The first few weeks of the beginning of a new year can be an exciting time! For many, it provides the opportunity to reflect, hit the reset button, and start over or begin new goals, friendships, habits, and more. Many will choose to establish new routines around physical, spiritual, mental, and relational health. The opportunities are endless.

Students were invited to consider what the Lord may be asking
each of them to "reset" or start anew this year.

For Catholics, one might recognize that even Jesus made new year resolutions in a certain sense. For instance, the Baptism of Jesus (celebrated January 7) could be thought of as a kind of new year for Christ and the beginning of His commitment to his life of public ministry. This baptismal moment, recounted in the Gospel of Luke (Lk 3:21-22), was immediately followed by Luke sharing that Jesus began His public ministry at the age of 30. In other words, Jesus spent 30 years preparing for His life’s work.

In some ways, for students, their time at BSM is an elongated "new year." A time for them to set goals and habits to prepare for college, a career, a family, or a dream made reality. Students, perhaps, can find solace in knowing that even Jesus took the first 30 years of His life to prepare for his mission in life.

In light of this calendar new year, students were invited to consider what the Lord may be asking each of them to "reset" or start anew this year. Perhaps, they have a friendship, habit, or personal practice that could benefit from a reset? Or they could even choose to intentionally NOT do anything and focus on being content amidst whatever circumstances are present in their life.

This invitation is also extended to the broader community of BSM. It is an invitation to consider what God may be calling you to reset or start over in your life. Or maybe God is calling you to hold in place and embrace being content amidst the joys and challenges of your current state and circumstances in life.

Here at BSM, as an institution, we also look forward to the many ways we are able to engage in our faith walk. Students will have the opportunity to go on retreat in this second half of the school year. We look forward to our regular opportunities for Mass and Eucharistic adoration and extend a special invite to the broader BSM community to join us for these special moments in the school day. The school also looks forward to the celebration of Catholic Schools week in late January and early February.

Whatever this new year brings, please know God is with us in a special way as we close out the Christmas season and begin the new year.

God bless,
Campus Ministry Team
