National Honor Society

The National Honor Society is an organization of students selected for membership based on outstanding scholarship, leadership, character, and service.

To be eligible for consideration for membership, candidates must have:

  • a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or better,
  • must have been in attendance at Benilde-St. Margaret’s High School for at least one semester prior to eligibility, and
  • must be members of the junior or senior class.

Once selected, active members must maintain a cumulative GPA of no lower than 3.40, and must continue to uphold the Society’s high standards for leadership, character, and service.

Selection to NHS is a privilege, not a right. Students do not apply for membership in NHS; instead, they provide information to be used by the Faculty Council to support their candidacy for membership. Membership is granted only to those students selected by the Faculty Council at BSM. This is not an election, nor is membership automatically conferred simply because a student has achieved a specified level of academic performance.

NHS meets once a month, as per national standards. These monthly meetings are mandatory for active members. NHS members must also participate actively in NHS-sponsored events, activities and service projects. NHS offers many opportunities for active participation and service; an active member should have little difficulty meeting these obligations.

Warm Clothing Drive

In late November to early December, the NHS hosts a warm clothing drive, collecting gently worn hats, gloves, scarves, jackets, coats, vests, and sweatshirts to support the Disabled American Veterans of Minnesota.

Collection boxes are placed in both the Haben Center and main lobby entrances. Thank you for supporting local veterans and helping those less fortunate!

Winter Blood Drive

The NHS hosts a blood drive in December in the Haben Wrestling Room. Students 16 and older, faculty, staff and parents are encouraged to attend. Students ages 16-18 must have parent/guardian consent to donate. We have partnered with Memorial Blood Centers for this event and each liter donated helps save a life. Sign up for a donation time slot today!
