Band

Students enrolled in band perform a wide variety of music, including overtures, marches, lighter classics, and pop tunes. Students work on improving rhythm, technique, and style.

Public performances include concerts, athletic events, conference band festival with an opportunity for solo and ensemble contest participation in the spring. Members of the band are also responsible for performing as a pep band at select athletic events in the fall and winter. 

Band is an academic activity open to Grades 7-12
There are separate bands for 7th and 8th grades, and senior high (grades 9-12).

Two Semesters of Band fulfills the school's Fine Arts requirement.


The BSM Concert Bands perform a wide variety of music including classic band standards, contemporary pieces by diverse composers, and pop tunes. Through this repertoire, students work on improving rhythm, technique, and musical style as well as real world skills such as collaboration, critical thinking, and problem solving,. 

Pep band at select athletic events during the fall and winter season is a required component of high school band. Through pep band, students will have the opportunity to perform at many different sports venues in the Metro including U.S. Bank Stadium, and the Target Center. Other required performances include one concert each semester, conference band festival, and an opportunity for solo and ensemble contest participation in the spring. Musicians also have the opportunity to participate in jazz band as a zero hour class.

Two semesters of Band fulfills the school's Fine Arts requirement.

7th and 8th grade bands are separated by grade. Each grade will have band class for one semester and are scheduled for weekly sectional lessons throughout the year. 7th and 8th graders will also have the opportunity to participate in jazz band outside of the school day

In senior high, band meets three days a week with the opportunity for sectionals and ensemble work outside of the school day. 

In junior high, the band class meets three times a week during their designated semester and are scheduled for weekly sectionals.
