Figure Skating Club

The BSM Figure Skating Club is open to all current BSM students in grades 7 -12 who are interested in figure skating from beginner to advanced level. The members of the club encourage each other to train, compete, and perform. The most exciting activity is attending BSM hockey games, where the club members cheer for the team and entertain fans by performing a choreographed on-ice routine between periods. The club works together to choose their music and choreograph the routine(s) for performances. Through United States Figure Skating (USFS), students have the opportunity to earn a varsity letter in figure skating.

Time Commitment:

The club meets two or three times each month for about one hour at a time from October to February for an off-ice practices at BSM and for on-ice practices at the St. Louis Park Rec Center. Off-ice practices consist of discussions about music and costumes as well as planning and perfecting the choreography. On-ice practices consist of practicing the routine(s) as well as working on figure skating skills. Practices are typically scheduled before school on late start days and after school, sometimes on early dismissal days, based on the availability of the club members. The club performed two different routines this past year at four varsity hockey games. At the end of the season, the club meets a couple times to celebrate the previous season, and to tentatively plan and set goals for the next.

*To earn a varsity letter, a club member must pass at least intermediate moves in the field and/or ISI Freestyle 6 by the end of the current season, compete at an advanced level, and attend at least one performance with the club.
