Worship Opportunities

Student Reading at Mass

Coming together as a community to pray and worship God is a foundation of Benilde-St. Margaret’s Catholic mission. There are many liturgical experiences for students, faculty, staff, and parents to nurture their spiritual journey and Catholic faith.

An important part of being a community of faith is praying and worshiping together. In addition to all-school liturgies, many other prayer and worship opportunities exist at BSM, including:

  • Weekly morning prayer and rosary
  • Team prayer for sports and activities
  • Regular Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

We also offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation during the seasons of Advent and Lent when we invite priests from neighboring parishes to join us for the day to minister to our students and adults.

School Liturgies

All-school Masses are held at least once a month in our Great Hall. Masses are planned and led by students through a variety of ministries including: lectoring, serving, processional, Eucharistic ministry, and choir. In addition to all-school Masses, weekly before-school Masses are held in the chapel once per week during Advent and Lent at 7:20 a.m. These Masses are sponsored by various sports teams/clubs and all members of the community are welcome to attend!

Liturgical Schedule (2023-2024 School Year)

Understanding Liturgy

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

Appreciating the silence and profound presence of God, this unique and sacred prayer is generally offered for students on the first Friday of each month. In addition, our Parent Association supports BSM students by offering Adoration during student finals each semester as well as on Holy Thursday each year.

Eucharistic Ministry

Eucharistic Ministry – is a special lay ministry commissioned by the Church through the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. This ministry is designed to assist with the distribution of the Eucharist at our school liturgies or school related liturgies.

To be a Eucharistic Minister is to be a person of faith, commitment, and service as the person who serves in this ministry truly presents Jesus to the others in our community. In addition to the members of our administration, faculty and staff who perform this special ministry, and members of the senior class who have received Confirmation and are active in their parishes, are also called to serve in this way.

For more information, visit the Eucharistic Ministry section on the Campus Ministry page.

Rosary

Every Thursday morning before school begins, students, faculty, and staff have the opportunity to pray the Rosary in the Our Lady of Peace Chapel.

Labyrinth

A walking meditation is available for students, faculty, and staff three times through the school year: during Advent, Lent, and the month of May. A 36’ canvas, eleven-circuit Chartres Cathedral style labyrinth is brought into the Great Hall. A quiet environment with meditative music surrounds walkers as they slow down to pray and meditate amidst their busy days.

Liturgical Choir

BSM is blessed to have students who are always willing to share their musical talent and gifts during school liturgies. Whether this be through choir, small group ensembles, solos, or orchestra, all join together in giving praise and thanks. All liturgical music is under the direction of our school music director who works closely with all those involved in the planning of our school liturgies.

Student Morning Prayer

Before school each Friday of the school year, all students are invited to join us in Our Lady of Peace Chapel for morning prayer. It’s a beautiful way to begin the day and to bring the week to a close. Additional morning prayer is added during significant times of the school year such as special seasons, celebrations, and finals weeks.
