Information and Directions


Please arrive the first day of camp about 15 minutes early to check in. Our coaches will be at the camp location at least 10 minutes before the camp begins and will remain at the location for approximately 15 minutes after camp ends. Please be sure the camper is picked up right after camp each day.

We suggest each camper bring their own water bottle (clearly marked) and any necessary equipment to participate in the camp.

All camps will be held at BSM (2501 South Highway 100, St. Louis Park)
EXCEPT for Hockey Camps which will be held at St. Louis Park Rec Center, 3700 Monterey Drive, St. Louis Park AND Sailing Camp which is at Lake Harriet.

Activities Camps:

Clay Camp - CAMP IS CLOSED

 

Description:  During the first four days (June 12-15), we will be making a variety of hand-built projects (masks, mugs, vases, boxes, tiles, etc).  Projects will be fired of the weekend and we will glaze them the following Monday (June 19).  Projects will be fired again and be ready for pick up on Tuesday (June 20).  Cost covers materials, firing and instruction.

Drama - COMPLETED

Description:  Explore your inner actor! Students attending BSM’s Drama Camp will explore a variety of theater-related activities including pantomime, vocal performance, auditioning skills and movement/choreography. All participants will receive a T-shirt and instruction from current theater department staff as well as recent theater department graduates. A performance showcasing skills learned will be held on the final day of camp.

French Camp - CAMP IS CLOSED

 

Description: This camp serves as an introduction to French through conversation, culture, songs and games. No previous exposure to French is necessary. Topics include:  greetings, numbers, colors, clothing, parts of the body, Café vocabulary, the French-speaking world, Paris Monuments and French trivia.  We will sample les crêpes, la baguette et le fromage, les croissants, et les macarons!  Bon Appétit et Bon Voyage!

Description:  BSM needs a crime scene investigator - become a forensic scientist!  Help BSM solve crimes daily. We will dust and lift fingerprints, analyze footprints, hair and glass at a crime scene.  Each day we will learn different techniques to solve the "crime of the day."

3-D Printing:  Minecraft Creations - Camp is Full

Description:  3-D printing and Minecraft both represent boundless opportunity for creating even our wildest of ideas! In 3-D Printing: Minecraft Creations, students will explore the basic concepts of 3-D printing and
computer-aided design, or CAD, to bring their most awesome Minecraft creations to life! Students will take their Minecraft design out of the world of Minecraft and learn how to extrude it into a 3-D model that can be printed in 3-D.  Students will come home with creations using a 3-D pen and working files that can be uploaded to a 3rd party 3-D Printing website at the end of the program.

**3D pen nibs can reach very high temperatures. Care and control must be exercised by each student to avoid injury.**

Wreck-It Week - COMPLETED

Description:  Smash! Crash! BOOM! Students in this camp will join Wrecking Companies for the week and will attempt to work their way up the ranks of their company from Intern to President. They will compete against other wrecking companies in various engineering-related challenges, such as building a bridge from balsa wood and constructing safety mechanisms to protect a raw egg from impact. Put on your hard hats and safety goggles and join the fun!

3D Video Game Design:  Kodu Kart Racing - CAMP IS CLOSED

Description:  Race to the finish and create your own 3D racing game in Microsoft’s Kodu gaming environment. From terrain design to enemy selection, students are placed at the wheel and given full control to design their game. Create your own video game while exploring the foundations of coding. Kick your creativity in gear with Kodu Kart Racing. (not compatible with Mac or Linux)

Electronic Game Design:  Invader Defense – Shark Attack - Camp is CLOSED

Description:  Watch out! It’s a shark attack! In Invader Defense: Shark Attack, we will create our own version of an invader defense game that will allow us to protect a coral reef from hungry sharks. We will use the Engineering Design Process to create a storyboard and outline the rules of play for our game. Then we will use Clickteam Fusion 2.5® to bring our storyboard to life with programming. At the end of the camp, everyone takes home a working Windows-compatible game (Clickteam Fusion 2.5® does not support Mac or Android operating systems).

Mechatronic Masterminds - COMPLETED

Description:  Eureka! Kelvin has finally done it! He has created a perpetual motion machine. But what is this? An evil genius has stolen Kelvin's masterpiece! Kelvin is now looking for a trustworthy team to develop and test new gadgets that will help him find and safeguard his perpetual motion machine. Explore the basics of mechatronics engineering and logic based programming as students use littleBits® and work together to design gadgets, tools, and machines that will help Kelvin get out of any sticky situation he may encounter.

Hardware Engineering – Get Wired with Makey Makey

Ages: Students entering grades 3 – 7

Dates: July 17 - 20, Mon - Thurs

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (Noon)

Cost: $165

Description:  Imagine designing a piano using celery or a creating a custom digital training program. Now, envision playing video games using just your body, a bit of wire and your own imagination. In our Hardware Engineering program, students engineer their own customized video game controllers using a Makey Makey® device and materials that can be found in just about any kitchen. Through application of circuitry, acoustical engineering and video game design, students discover new ways to interact with technology, all while creating unique designs in a fun collaborative environment.  Students bring home a Makey Makey® unit at the end of the class.   Click to learn more about Makey Makey.

MinecraftEDU:  Medieval Redstone

Ages: Students entering grades 3 – 6

Dates: July 17 - 20, Mon - Thurs

Time: 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Cost: $130

Description:  MinecraftEDU is an expansive game that lets players design and create unique worlds with amazing structures. One of the more complicated aspects of MinecraftEDU is Redstone, which is MinecraftEDU’s version of electrical circuitry. This camp will introduce students to the many uses of Redstone through a Medieval-themed adventure of creation, exploration, and castle besieging, with students making mine cart tracks to help them gather resources, working together to build their kingdom, and designing traps to defend their castle, all with the use of Redstone.

Robotics: Robot Surgeons - CAMP IS CLOSED

Description:  During the LEGO® Robot Surgeons camp, students design and program robots to function as medical robots by accomplishing a task that would cure a disease or address an issue within a human organ. Students work in pairs using LEGO® EV3 Robots and computers to learn principles of robotics, computer programming, and teamwork.

Robotics:  Ocean Missions - CAMP IS CLOSED

Description:  During the LEGO® Robotics Ocean Missions camp, students design and program robots to protect the ocean and ocean life by releasing a dolphin into the ocean, fixing a broken pipeline, and maintaining an oil platform. Students work in pairs using LEGO® EV3 Robots and computers to learn principles of robotics, computer programming, and teamwork.

Medieval Mayham

Ages: Students entering grades 3 – 7

Description:  Here ye! Here ye! His Royal Highness King Kelvin bids you join him on a quest to eternal glory! In Medieval Mayhem, students unite together as a noble house and compete against others to build a kingdom worthy of greatness. Explore the Engineering of Medieval Times and joust your way to honor and battle your way to fame in this amazing adventure full of engaging engineering challenges.

Description: The BSM’s varsity coaching staff provides camp instruction. Daily contests and daily.  Will focus on fielding, throwing, hitting and base running. Campers will receive a T-shirt.

Boys’ Basketball - COMPLETED

Description:  All campers receive a basketball, individual evaluations, and T-shirts. (For those registering before May 20, your T-shirt will include your last name.) Head coach John Moore and the BSM coaching staff will conduct camp with assistance from college players and current/former varsity players. The first week of camp will emphasize individual skill development through station work. Week two will consist of individual and team competition.

Boys’ Basketball VBAP - CAMP IS FULL.

Description: Turn your weaknesses into strengths. Focus on increasing athleticism, strength, agility, shooting, and ball handling. Since this camp is geared toward grades 9-12, interested students in grades 7 and 8 please contact Coach Moore before registering (89jmoore20@comcast.net). Space is limited to the first 45 to register. All sessions are conducted by BSM boys’ basketball coaches.

Girls Basketball Camp - COMPLETED

Description:  All campers receive a T-shirt and a basketball. Daily games and contests focus on offensive and defensive fundamentals. Head Coach Bob Lyons and the BSM coaching staff will run the camp with assistance from varsity players.

Girls’ Basketball Offensive Skills

Ages: Students entering grades 7 – 12

Dates: June 13 – 15, 20 – 22, Tues, Wed, Thurs

Time: 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Time: 12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Cost: $210 (covers all sessions)

Description: The BSM Girls’ Basketball Programs Offensive Skills camp is for players who are serious about improving their game. The focus will be on shooting, footwork, ball handling, passing and offensive movement as well as attention to increasing athleticism and conditioning. Football Camp - COMPLETED

Ages: Students entering grades 7 – 9

Description:  The BSM football camp will provide a non-contact learning environment focusing on skills, techniques and teamwork. The emphasis will be on fundamentals. All campers will receive a T-shirt, and awards are given daily.

Ages: Students entering grades 10 – 12

Description:  Players planning to attend the Duluth Football Camp -- MUST attend this camp in order to be in compliance with MSHSL summer football practice guidelines.  BSM high school students who plan on participating in the football program will learn the fundamentals of the game while learning the basic concepts of the Red Knights offense and defense.  Equipment will be given out and there will be limited contact at this camp. 

We will be following the Minnesota State High School League rules for camp regarding contact -  two days of camp with helmets and mouth guards followed by two days of camp with shoulder pads, helmets and mouth guards, followed by one day of camp in full gear.

Football FAST Program

Ages: Students entering grades 9 - 12

Dates: June 12 – August 11 Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri  (OFF 7/3-7/7)

Time: 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.

Cost: $100

Description:  Football Agility Strength and Speed Training is a comprehensive regimen specifically designed to develop football players. Our program is based on the University of Wisconsin’s strength and agility program and our results have proven that it works. It is highly physically demanding and is recommended for sophomores, juniors and seniors. Freshmen are welcome to participate.

FAST incorporates speed work, agility drills to improve foot speed, and rigorous weight lifting to develop strength, power, and explosiveness. Since we started using this program in 2008, those players who have committed themselves to the program have had tremendous success. They have become stronger, faster and more complete football players who are prepared to start the season. We meet Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 7-9 am on the football field and in the weight room throughout the summer.

Description: Camp instructors will be Head Coach Ken Pauly and members of BSM’s coaching staff. This year’s guest instructors will include current professional and USHL players. Former Red Knight and collegiate players will serve as on- and off-ice assistants. All training activity takes place at St. Louis Park Recreation Center. Description:  Hey Red Knights (Current and New) and Girls Lax players who want to improve their game -- join us for ten sessions of intensive lacrosse training this summer with BSM varsity coaches.  We will have conditioning, individual skill training and team concepts.  Players will have fun and work hard, helping the girls to grow individually and as teammates.

Samples of activities include:  Attacking - dodges and fakes, 1v1s to goal, eluding a double team.  Midfield - taking the draw, attacking ground balls and midfield defense.  Defense - 1v1s, slides and clears.  Extensive stick work drills necessary for the game!  Work on small-sided games and larger 7v7 scrimmages.

Sailing

Ages: Students entering grades 5 – 9

Dates/Times: July 10 - 13  Mon - Thurs   1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.   (15 participants)

OR                  July 17 - 20  Mon - Thurs    10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.   (15 participants)

Cost: $135

Description:  Have fun learning the basics of sailing including tacking, gybing, wind, knots, docking and boat rigging. Everyone gets to skipper the boat and trim the sails of a Lido 14 foot sailboat equipped with both a main and headsail on Lake Harriet. Each sailboat will have one coach and up to three students. Description:  This mini-camp is conducted by Varsity Head Coach Scott Helling-Christy and assistant Anne Erickson. This camp is open to ALL high school students and is structured like the training sessions players will experience during tryouts and the season. This is a great opportunity to meet other players and work with the BSM coaching staff.

Description:  The BSM coaching staff and current and former varsity players will instruct campers on the finer points of fast-pitch softball, including catching, throwing, bunting, hitting, base running, pitching, positioning, fielding responsibilities and the overall sport dynamics. Junior Red Knights Volleyball Camp - COMPLETED

 

Description:   This introductory camp is designed for the young aspiring spikers between 3rd through 6th grade.  Emphasis will be placed on the FUNdamentals of the game in a fast-moving pace with a focus on getting many reps for every camper.  Participants will learn the basic skills necessary for passing, setting, serving and attacking the ball.  Campers will also be taught some of the basic rules of the game and rotation. This is a great first camp or a good recap for those athletes wanting to advance their skills to the next level. 

BSM varsity coaches and athletes will lead a fun-filled week of games, instruction and contests. T-shirts will be awarded to all participants.

Description:  Do you want to get ready for the upcoming volleyball season? Join your teammates at these drop-in sessions where we will work on your passing, setting, and hitting skills. Volleyball experience is not required. We will run a variety of drills and scrimmages so that you can get plenty of touches on the ball. Take advantage of this great opportunity to get into "volleyball shape," work on your skills, and showcase your talents to the BSM coaches who will run each session. Come ready to work hard and have fun. See you on the court!

Is there a specific area of your game that you want to work on or would like more individualized development? BSM varsity coaches Ashley Wittman Bushman, Molly Hurrle, Mackenzie Piechowski and Michael Becker can help with this. You pick the skills you want to work on and they'll help you take your game to a higher level! The one-hour lesson at BSM can be one-on-one or with another player and arranged at the mutually available time.
