Summer Camps

BSM Summer Camps for 2018

General Information and Directions:

  • Please arrive the first day of camp about 15 minutes early to check in. Our coaches will be at the camp location at least 10 minutes before the camp begins and will remain at the location for approximately 15 minutes after camp ends. Please be sure the camper is picked up right after camp each day.

  • We suggest each camper bring their own water bottle (clearly marked) and any necessary equipment to participate in the camp.

  • All camps will be held at Benilde-St. Margaret's School (2501 South Highway 100, St. Louis Park) EXCEPT for the following:

    • Boys Hockey Camps which are held at St. Louis Park Rec Center (3700 Monterey Drive, St. Louis Park)

    • Girls Hockey Camps which are held at St. Louis Park Rec Center (3700 Monterey Drive, St. Louis Park) and First Athlete (7101 Amundson Avenue, Edina)

    • Sailing Camp which is at Lake Harriet (4135 West Lake Harriet Parkway, Minneapolis). Meet at boat launch @ Sailing School hut.

    • Tennis Camp which is held at Aquila Park Tennis Courts (3110 Xylon Avenue S, St. Louis Park)

Activities Camps

Drama

Ages: Students entering grades 3-7

Dates: June 18 - 22, Mon - Fri

Time: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. (Noon)

Cost:  $100 early registration / $115 walk-in

Description: Explore your inner actor! Students attending BSM’s Drama Camp will explore a variety of theater-related activities including pantomime, vocal performance, auditioning skills and movement/choreography. All participants will receive a T-shirt and instruction from current theater department staff as well as recent theater department graduates. A performance showcasing skills learned will be held on the final day of camp.

French Camp

Ages: Students entering grades 4-7

Description: This camp serves as an introduction to French through conversation, culture, songs and games. No previous exposure to French is necessary. Topics include: greetings, numbers, colors, clothing, parts of the body, Café vocabulary, the French-speaking world, Paris Monuments and French trivia. We will sample les crêpes, la baguette et le fromage, les croissants, et les macarons! Bon Appétit et Bon Voyage!

Description: BSM needs a crime scene investigator - become a forensic scientist!  Help BSM solve crimes daily. We will dust and lift fingerprints, analyze footprints, hair and glass at a crime scene.  Each day we will learn different techniques to solve the "crime of the day."

Computer Building with Piper & Raspberry Pi

Description: Learn how to build a computer with Piper, the computer that prepares kids for a lifetime of building technology! Build. Program. Play. As kids build Piper and progress through the games, they develop both technical skills and approaches that lead to inventive solutions. Engineering For Kids will coach you through this learning system which teaches kids hardware engineering and programming through a combination of an engaging storyline, physical building, and the Raspberry Pi Edition of Minecraft.

STEM Camp:  Inventors Club

Description: Thomas Edison once said "To invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk." Do you have what it takes to be an inventor? In this camp we’ll work with circuits and littleBits (electronic building blocks) to design and create our own new inventions using everyday materials. We’ll start with an open-ended problem and see how creative you can be to create an electric torch, chain reaction, animatronics and more!

Computer Based Classes

Create Roblox Games with Code Kingdoms

Description: Roblox is one of the fastest-growing game creation platforms on the planet, with more than 60 million players per month. Learn how to code your own Roblox games with Code Kingdoms. Start out your coding adventure without having to worry about complicated text code. In this camp, you’ll use Code Kingdoms’ easy drag & drop interface and LUA to code your game. Publish, share, and play games with friends on any platform from console to mobile. Kids with existing Roblox accounts should bring their log-in info; otherwise, a free account will be created in class.

3-D Printing:  Minecraft Creations

Ages: Students entering grades 3-7

Dates: July 30 - August 2, Mon - Thurs

Cost:  $140

Description: 3-D printing and Minecraft both represent boundless opportunity for creating even our wildest of ideas! In 3-D Printing: Minecraft Creations, students will explore the basic concepts of 3-D printing and
computer-aided design, or CAD, to bring their most awesome Minecraft creations to life! Students will take their Minecraft design out of the world of Minecraft and learn how to extrude it into a 3-D model that can be printed in 3-D. Students will come home with creations using a 3-D pen and working files that can be uploaded to a 3rd party 3-D Printing website at the end of the program.

*3D pen nibs can reach very high temperatures. Care and control must be exercised by each student to avoid injury. Parent waivers needed for use of 3D pens & online software - waivers available at check in.

Coding Games in Scratch

Ages: Students entering grades 3-7

Description: Intro to Programming: Programming and coding are becoming necessary skills for various fields of engineering. Students will be introduced to coding and develop programming skills by designing and developing simple and fun video games using laptops and MIT's Scratch programming software.

Electronic Game Design: Defeat the Creeper

Ages: Students entering grades 3-7

Dates: June 18 - 21, Mon - Thurs

Cost:  $140

Description: Have creepers ever destroyed your hard-built world? Do you want to beat these cruel creatures? In this camp, you will create your own Defeat the Creeper game. We will use the Engineering Design Process to create a storyboard to outline the rules of play and characters for our game. Then, we will use Clickteam Fusion 2.5® to bring our storyboard to life with programming. At the end of the camp, everyone takes home a working Windows-compatible game (Clickteam Fusion 2.5® does not support Mac or Android operating systems).

MinecraftEDU: Medieval Redstone

Ages: Students entering grades 3-7

Description: MinecraftEDU is an expansive game that lets players design and create unique worlds with amazing structures. One of the more complicated aspects of MinecraftEDU is Redstone, which is MinecraftEDU’s version of electrical circuitry. This camp will introduce students to the many uses of Redstone through a Medieval-themed adventure of creation, exploration, and castle besieging, with students making mine cart tracks to help them gather resources, working together to build their kingdom, and designing traps to defend their castle, all with the use of Redstone.

Robotics

Robotics:  Robo-Battles

Ages: Students entering grades 3-7

Description: During the LEGO® Robo Battles camp, students create, program, and control robots designed to perform challenges such as the SumoBots Challenge, Jousting Challenge, and the Catapult Challenge. Students use LEGO® Robotics and computers to learn principles of robotics, computer programming, and teamwork.

STEM Camp:  Survivor Island - FULL

Description: Students will find themselves stranded on an abandoned island filled with perilous obstacles – dark caves, wild animals, cold temperatures, little food, and separation from the comforts of home. They will work collaboratively with their tribe members to compete against other tribes in specific engineering-related projects aimed at trying to survive the harsh island conditions and escape to their freedom. The tribe with the most points at the end of the week will claim the honor of being the winners of Survivor Island!

Head coach John Moore and the BSM coaching staff will conduct camp with assistance from college players and current/former varsity players. The first week of camp will emphasize individual skill development through station work. Week two will consist of individual and team competition.

Description: The BSM Girls’ Basketball Programs Offensive Skills camp is for players who are serious about improving their game. The focus will be on shooting, footwork, ball handling, passing and offensive movement as well as attention to increasing athleticism and conditioning. Description: The BSM football camp will provide a non-contact learning environment focusing on skills, techniques and teamwork. The emphasis will be on fundamentals. All campers will receive a T-shirt, and awards are given daily.

Cost: $95 early registration / $115 walk-in

Description: BSM high school students who plan on participating in the football program will learn the fundamentals of the game while learning the basic concepts of the Red Knights offense and defense.  Equipment will be given out and there will be limited contact at this camp. We will be following the Minnesota State High School League rules for camp regarding contact -  two days of camp with helmets and mouth guards followed by two days of camp with shoulder pads, helmets and mouth guards, followed by one day of camp in full gear.

*NOTE:  Players planning to attend the Duluth Football Camp -- MUST attend this camp in order to be in compliance with MSHSL summer football practice guidelines.*

Football FAST Program

Ages: Students entering grades 9-12

Dates: June 11 – August 10, Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri (Off 7/2-7/6)

Time: 7 a.m. – 9 a.m.

Cost: $115 (covers all sessions)

Description: Football Agility Strength and Speed Training (FAST) is a comprehensive regimen specifically designed to develop football players. Our program is based on the University of Wisconsin’s strength and agility program and our results have proven that it works. It is highly physically demanding and is recommended for sophomores, juniors and seniors. Freshmen are welcome to participate.

FAST incorporates speed work, agility drills to improve foot speed, and rigorous weight lifting to develop strength, power, and explosiveness. Since we started using this program in 2008, those players who have committed themselves to the program have had tremendous success. They have become stronger, faster and more complete football players who are prepared to start the season. We meet Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 7-9 am on the football field and in the weight room throughout the summer.

2018 STP High School Camp (Grades 9-12)

Dates: June 11 - 14, 18 - 21, 25 – 28; July 9 – 12, 16 – 19, 23 – 25

Time Schedule: Mon/Wed (staggered group sessions 10:45 a.m. - 2:15 p.m.) are dedicated to on-ice skill training, concepts asd small area games, followed by dryland training and classroom. Tues/Thurs are scrimmage days with two groups (10:00 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. for grades 9-10 and 11:30 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. for grades 11 - 12).

Cost: $620

Description: Hey Red Knights (Current and New) and Girls Lax players who want to improve their game -- join us for ten sessions of intensive lacrosse training this summer with BSM varsity coaches. We will have conditioning, individual skill training and team concepts. Players will have fun and work hard, helping the girls to grow individually and as teammates.

Samples of activities include: Attacking - dodges and fakes, 1v1s to goal, eluding a double team. Midfield - taking the draw, attacking ground balls and midfield defense. Defense - 1v1s, slides and clears. Extensive stick work drills necessary for the game! Work on small-sided games and larger 7v7 scrimmages.

Sailing Camp

Location: Lake Harriet (4135 West Lake Harriet Parkway, Minneapolis - by boat launch & Sailing School hut)

Description: Have fun learning the basics of sailing including tacking, gybing, wind, knots, docking and boat rigging. Everyone gets to skipper the boat and trim the sails of a Lido 14 foot sailboat equipped with both a main and headsail on Lake Harriet. Each sailboat will have one coach and up to three students. Description: This mini-camp is conducted by Varsity Head Coach Scott Helling-Christy and assistant Anne Erickson. This camp is open to ALL high school students and is structured like the training sessions players will experience during tryouts and the season. This is a great opportunity to meet other players and work with the BSM coaching staff.

Description: The BSM coaching staff and current and former varsity players will instruct campers on the finer points of fast-pitch softball, including catching, throwing, bunting, hitting, base running, pitching, positioning, fielding responsibilities and the overall sport dynamics. Description: Learn to play tennis or work on specific areas. Junior Red Knights Volleyball Camp

Ages: Students entering grades 3-6

Dates:  July 9– 12,  (Mon - Thurs)

Time: 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.

Cost: $100 early registration / $115 walk-in

Description: This introductory camp is designed for the young aspiring spikers between 3rd through 6th grade. Emphasis will be placed on the FUNdamentals of the game in a fast-moving pace with a focus on getting many reps for every camper. Participants will learn the basic skills necessary for passing, setting, serving and attacking the ball. Campers will also be taught some of the basic rules of the game and rotation. This is a great first camp or a good recap for those athletes wanting to advance their skills to the next level. BSM varsity coaches and athletes will lead a fun-filled week of games, instruction and contests. T-shirts will be awarded to all participants.

Volleyball - Diggin' in the Haben (Note: two different age groups)

Ages: Students entering grades 7-8

Dates:  June 19, 21, 26, 28, July 10, 12, 17, 19, 24, 26  Tues & Thurs   

Time: 5 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

Cost: $145 (covers all sessions)

                          OR 

Ages: Students entering grades 9-12

Dates: June 19 - 21, 26 - 28; July 10 - 12, 17 - 19, 24 - 26  Tues, Wed, Thurs

Time: 6:30 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Cost: $175 (covers all sessions)

Description: Do you want to get ready for the upcoming volleyball season? Join your teammates at these drop-in sessions where we will work on your passing, setting, and hitting skills. Volleyball experience is not required. We will run a variety of drills and scrimmages so that you can get plenty of touches on the ball. Take advantage of this great opportunity to get into "volleyball shape," work on your skills, and showcase your talents to the BSM coaches who will run each session. Come ready to work hard and have fun. See you on the court!

Private Volleyball Lessons Also Available

Is there a specific area of your game that you want to work on or would like more individualized development? BSM varsity coaches Ashley Wittman Bushman, Molly Hurrle, Mackenzie Piechowski and Michael Becker can help with this. You pick the skills you want to work on and they'll help you take your game to a higher level! The one-hour lesson at BSM can be one-on-one or with another player and arranged at the mutually available time. 

Contact Head Coach Luong if interested and he will get you in touch with one of these coaches to set up your lesson.

Cost: $50/hour (one-on-one lesson) or $70/hour (two players)
