The Benilde-St. Margaret’s (BSM) senior high student council serves as a vital link between the student body and the administration. By collaborating closely, they organize and implement school-wide events that foster a positive and inclusive school culture at BSM.

Mission Statement

The BSM Student Council is dedicated to enriching the experiences of students and staff by promoting school spirit, amplifying student voices, organizing engaging activities, and offering leadership opportunities beyond the classroom.

Student Council members play key leadership roles in planning and executing major school events and initiatives, including:

Meeting Times

Student Council meets during homeroom. Subcommittees also gather during Thursday homerooms. Additional meetings may be scheduled before or after school as needed. Members are expected to be actively involved in event planning and participation throughout the school year.

Length of Term

Student Council members are elected by their grade-level peers and serve for one academic year.

Application & Election Process

Students interested in joining the Student Council must:

• Complete an application
• Participate in an interview with the faculty advisors
• Submit a 2-minute campaign video
• Be elected by their grade through a student vote

Conduct Expectations

All Student Council members must uphold the expectations outlined in the Student Council Student Conduct Form. Failure to meet these expectations may result in removal from the council.

Middle School Student Council

The Benilde-St. Margaret’s middle school student council is made up of four elected representatives from each grade. To be elected, they must participate in an interview with the advisors and create a 1-2 minute campaign video. They must be voted in my members of their class.

They are responsible for helping plan spirit weeks, dress-up days, monthly fun activities, and decorating the school. They meet once a month during homeroom with the high school student council to help plan on one of the six subcommittees.

Composition:

• Four elected representatives from each grade.

Election Process:

• Participate in an interview with the advisors.
• Give a speech to your class during homeroom.
• Be voted in by members of their class.

Responsibilities:

• Help plan spirit weeks.
• Organize dress-up days.
• Plan monthly fun activities.
• Decorate the school.

Meetings:

• Meet once a week during homeroom.
• Collaborate with the senior high student council.
• Participate in one of the six subcommittees for planning activities.
