Knight Errant Receives National Journalism Award
Benilde-St. Margaret’s student newspaper, the Knight Errant, was recently honored with a 2022 Scholastic Silver Hybrid News Crown Award by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA). Awards are presented to top student publications from across the country.
"This award is a testament to the hard work of the student journalists,” said Tiffany Joseph, Knight Errant advisor. “Last year was such a strange year with hybrid learning, but the students kept publishing quality material."
In awarding the Knight Errant a Silver Crown, judges noted, “The Knight Errant is a pretty delightful publication, full of color, life, and creativity….The content rich website has a COVID-19 vertical that connects students to all of the stories written by the staff about the pandemic.”
The Knight Errant was one of four Minnesota school publications receiving a 2022 CSPA award. Nearly 820 high school publications were eligible for a CSPA award. Andrew Lyons ‘22, current Knight Errant editor-in-chief said, "I'm so proud of last year’s Knight Errant team, this is a well-deserved award for their efforts."
The CSPA Crown awards celebrate the best of student publications in a variety of categories (print, digital, and hybrid news, magazines, and yearbooks). A judging panel of faculty and experts in the field compare each publication against journalistic standards, identifying best in class for design, photography, concept, coverage, and writing.
This is the Knight Errant’s fourth CSPA crown award and twenty-fifth national journalism award.
