Spanish Students Make Pinatas for Posadas Celebration

After having explored the history of the piñata and the celebration of the Posadas, Ms. Jantscher's Spanish 3 and Honors Spanish 3 classes crafted piñatas to be donated to the Latino community at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Minneapolis for the celebration of the Posadas.

The Posadas is a tradition in Mexican culture that leads up to Christmas. It includes a novena, or a series of nine days of prayer, in which the community prays in anticipation of the coming of Jesus. The tradition also includes a reenactment of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Joseph searching for a "Posada," or an "Inn" in preparation of the birth of Baby Jesus, as well as the rosary, singing, traditional food, and piñatas.

Additionally, ten BSM students joined in celebrations at St. Stephen's Church on Sunday, December 16.
