Red Knights Reflect on the 2020-2021 Scripture Theme

Red Knights Reflect on the 2020-2021 Scripture Theme

Each year, Benilde St.-Margaret’s chooses a scripture theme to guide thoughtful reflection and to help the community focus on the love of God and one another.

2020-2021 Scripture Theme: “Let justice surge like waters, and righteousness like an unfailing stream.” Amos 5:24

EPIC Marketing & Communications Intern Mia Sanderson ‘21 asked current students and faculty to share their thoughts on what this year's scripture theme means to them.

“Our God is a God of justice, and as followers of Jesus, we should always try to be just in what we do and what we say, how we live our lives and how we live in society.”
- Mr. Matt Brounstein, Theology Teacher

“This theme is important to me because I think that right now it’s important to let negativity continue downstream while still holding onto the things that bring light into our lives.”
- Mason Stenger, Class of ‘24

“The scripture theme emphasizes the idea of letting fairness and equality become a familiar subject to all. Not only letting it become familiar to all, but an essential part of life.”
- India Opperman, Class of ‘21

“Justice to me means meeting people where they are, and really listening to what they need, and then taking action. Righteousness to me means following my moral compass in whatever it is that I am doing, meaning that I need to check myself regularly to see if what I am doing feels like the right thing to do.”
- Ms. Amanda Anderson, Guidance and College Counselor

“I think in a time like today, it is important for the world and our school to practice and value justice together.”
- Grace Cochrane, Class of  ‘22
