Red Knights Change Lives and Give Back through Creative Games Project

Last week, ninth graders participated in a unique physical education unit that linked our Catholic identity and mission to the classroom by teaching students about the world around them, the importance of giving back, and the purpose of the Guatemala Mission trip.

As part of the unit, students were paired up, given a limited number of  items and were then tasked with using the items to come up with a creative game. During class, students then had the opportunity to lead, present and officiate their games. Mr. Casey Hanson came up with the project after attending the annual summer mission trip to Guatemala with fellow BSM faculty and students last summer. During their time there, the group built a house alongside a family, and although they didn't speak a common language, they did enjoy each other’s company by playing games together.

Also part of the Creative Games unit, students received extra credit for bringing in donations for this upcoming summer’s Guatemala mission trip.

As a result, Red Knights participated in service learning, learned the importance of taking time to be innovative and enjoyed movement and activity all while having fun!
