Mock Trial Teams Make it to the 5th Round at Section Competition
Congratulations to both Mock Trial teams on making it to the 5th round at the section competition! This is the first time that BSM has had two teams make it to the 5th round, meaning they will be competing against one another at the next competition, Wednesday, February 20 followed by state!
This year the state competition will be held in Duluth, February 28 - March 1. Last year, the varsity team competed at the state tournament in Minneapolis and placed 5th in the state with a record of 2-1 at state and a season record of 7-1 overall in the competition. This year, JV is undefeated with a 4-0 record and the varsity team is undefeated with a 4-0 record and is currently seeded #1 in the Hennepin County Super Region with an accumulated a +102-point differential.
Mock Trial is the combination of a variety of communication and higher-order thinking skills. The program promotes respect & fairness, public service, honesty, integrity & trustworthiness, competent, prompt & diligent representation, and quality of justice. The students learn how to argue effectively, respond to objections, understand more about the justice system, and a citizen's rights.
This year's team is led by seniors Maddie Kurtovich and Myrka Zambrano and juniors Breah Banks and Ronan Brew. Thank you to the wonderful coaches Ms. Murray (BSM Spanish Teacher), Michael Kruckow, Bob Huber (former BSM parent), Mark Whitmore (BSM parent), Amarita Singh, Henry Bird (BSM alum '18) and Deena Duffy (spouse of BSM alum '07).
Congratulations to all Mock Trial members and coaches! We are #BSMProud and we wish you all the good luck in your upcoming competitions!
