Longtime Girls Basketball Coach Bob Lyons Retires as one of BSM’s Winningest Coaches in School History

Longtime Benilde-St. Margaret’s Girls’ Varsity Basketball Coach Bob Lyons has made the difficult decision to step down after 26 years of coaching with the last 23 seasons at the helm of BSM.

He ends his tenure as one of the winningest coaches in the school history’s with a whopping 443 career wins.

When asked to reflect on his coaching career Bob said, “It's fun to reminisce about each team over the years and how they all had their own unique personality and chemistry. I realize how blessed I've been to coach so many amazing young women and look forward to helping out behind the scenes while being their #1 fan going forward.”

Bob took over in 1996 inheriting a team that had won five games in the previous two seasons. His Red Knights have gone on to average 20 wins a year for the last 19 seasons.

Bob has coached more than 25 players that have gone on to play college basketball and has coached multiple teams to the state tournament winning two State Championships (2006, 2010) and two third place trophies (2007, 2011).

"We're extremely grateful for Mr. Lyon's dedication, passion and commitment to the BSM girls' basketball program over the last 26 years. His leadership helped lead the team to success year after year, and his legacy will continue to live on not only the walls of the gymnasium, but in the hundreds of players he's coached,” said BSM Athletics Director Jerry Pettinger.
