Community Spotlight: Callianne Olson

The Benilde-St. Margaret’s community is composed of many caring, uniquely-talented individuals. As a way to learn more about the members who encourage students’ passions outside of the classroom, we’re spotlighting various coaches and activity leaders over the course of the school year! Meet Callianne Olson, assistant varsity girls’ soccer coach and BSM English teacher.

What is your favorite part about being a coach?
My favorite part of coaching is being a part of an athlete's development both athletically and personally. Also, watching a team come together and work as a unit and seeing a player do something they didn't think they were able to do is awesome! It also allows me to still be competitive in the sport that I love.

How long have you been a coach?
This is my 11th year coaching.

What are you most looking forward to this season?
Hopefully making a State Tournament run!!!

When you were a student, in high school and/or college, did you participate in the sport you coach? If yes, do you have a favorite memory from being on a team?
I played soccer at Academy of Holy Angels and at St. Olaf College. I think my favorite memory was the first game I played in "The Bowl" (aka St. Olaf's soccer field) as a freshman goalkeeper.

Do you have any advice to give to student-athletes?
Advice I’d give to Red Knights is to enjoy every moment that you are able to play the sport you love because you never know when your career might end. I wasn't able to play my last two years of college soccer because I played through too many injuries and my ankles couldn't take it anymore.

What do you love most about being part of the Red Knight community?
I love seeing students shine both in the classroom and on the field.
