BSM Sports Teams Find Success this Fall Season
Though the 2020 high school fall sports season has been unlike any other, the love of the game and importance of team spirit is alive and well amongst our Red Knight athletes! Students, coaches, and fans alike have remained flexible as rules and schedules have shifted to prioritize the health and safety of the community.
Many teams are approaching their post-season, while others are just ramping up.
Boys’ Cross Country
The boys’ cross country team has had a steady season, with a win most recently against the Chaska Hawks. Red Knights will compete in the Metro West Conference Championship Meet Oct. 8, followed by sections Oct. 14.
Girls’ Cross Country
The mild fall weather has made for an enjoyable cross country season for the girls’ team this year. Red Knights will compete in the Metro West Conference Championship Meet Oct. 8, followed by sections Oct. 14.
Amid much anticipation, the first football game of the season will be played at BSM Stadium vs. Orono Oct. 9. Red Knight fans (250, to be exact) will be allowed to cheer on the team in-person according to 2020 BSM Football Ticket Policies. Others may enjoy the game from the comfort of their home by watching the livestream. Senior captain Will Petty is looking forward to playing: “I am feeling really good about the season so far. We are making great strides as a team and are expecting to be the best team we can be - competitive throughout the season.”
The girls’ soccer team has had a strong season that resulted in a Metro West Conference Championship title! Their last regular season game - which will honor senior players - will be played Oct. 8. Sections start next week with a more detailed schedule coming soon.
The boys’ soccer team had an early win against the competitive Chaska Hawks who went on to be named Conference Champs. The BSM boys’ team will start their playoff season next week after celebrating senior night at their last regular season game Oct. 8.
The girls’ swim and dive team has demonstrated their strength this season, most recently with a win against Robbinsdale Cooper and when senior Taylor Williams set a pool record in the 100 Free against Delano. Their season will continue into late-October.
The BSM girls’ tennis team has had a very successful season, clinching the Metro West Conference Championship title! The section tournament has commenced, and the Red Knights won their first section game! They will advance to play Bloomington Jefferson Oct. 8.
Red Knight fans are jumping with excitement as BSM’s volleyball team will compete in their first game of the season Oct. 10 against city rival Saint Louis Park. This will be the Red Knights’ first season under new Head Coach Michael Becker.
Benilde-St Margaret’s is proud to have a robust athletics program and is honored to work with student-athletes throughout the course of the fall season as games are won and lost, teamwork is built, and memories are made. Go Red Knights!
