BSM Speech and Debate Teams Named Recipients of Leading Chapter Award
Recently, the BSM Speech and Debate teams were named the recipients of the 2018-2019 Leading Chapter Award in the Southern Minnesota District!
The Leading Chapter Award recognizes high school Speech and Debate excellence based on student participation throughout the school year. It is the highest award the National Speech and Debate Association grants. Only the top school in each district with the most members and degrees are awarded this honor. BSM is one of 110 schools out of 3,000 to receive the award. The Southern Minnesota district chair, Mr. Chris McDonald, presented BSM with a plaque which marks this significant achievement by the school’s Speech and Debate teams.
However, this recognition is more than just a title; it is a reflection of 16 years of dedication from students on the BSM Speech and Debate teams. Throughout the past decade, more than 2,300 members have competed with BSM, earning points and degrees in various ways.
Ms. Maura Brew has been the Head Coach of the Speech and Debate Teams for 12 years. She speaks to the success of her team saying, “This really is a testament to the hard work and enormous success of our BSM students over the last sixteen years, that they have won this amazing accomplishment and that BSM’s name is on a plaque alongside national award winners.”
Congratulations again to the Speech and Debate teams on this impressive achievement!
