BSM Girls' Soccer Team Captures Second Place at State Tournament!

There is much to celebrate in the world of BSM girls’ soccer: an undefeated regular season, a Metro West Conference Championship Title, Callianne Olson earning Section 5AA Assistant Coach of the Year, and teammate Ava Wagener ‘22 being named a 2021 Ms. Soccer Finalist. The accomplishments don’t stop there for this Red Knight squad. After defeating the Blake Bears 4-0 in the Section 5AA quarterfinal game, the BSM girls’ won 1-0 in a 4-1 penalty shootout against Orono in the section finals to punch their ticket to the MSHSL Girls Soccer State Tournament.

BSM earned the number one seed in the Class AA tournament and will play in the quarterfinal game against Alexandria Wednesday, Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m. at Monticello High School. Tickets must be purchased online at www.mshsl.org/tickets. Students who wish to take the free BSM fan bus should register by 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26. The bus will depart at 6 p.m. Wednesday from outside BSM’s Haben Center and arrive back on campus at approximately 10 p.m.

Update: November 1

The Red Knights defeated Alexandria in last week’s game 5-0 and will face Cloquet-Carlton in the State Semifinals. The game will take place at U.S. Bank Stadium Thursday, Nov. 4 at 12:30 p.m. Tickets are $14 for adults and $9 for students and must be purchased online at the MSHSL website before the game. 

BSM will dismiss school at 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4 so that students, faculty, and staff may attend the game and cheer on the team. The day’s special schedule will consist of 45-minute periods (2, 4, 6, 8) with no homeroom or lunch period. Students not attending the game are welcome to stay at BSM to work on school assignments in a supervised area.

Fan buses to the girls’ game will leave on Thursday at 11:25 a.m. from BSM. Students wishing to ride the fan bus to the game must register online using this form: 2021 State Girls’ Soccer - Fan Bus Registration. The form will close promptly on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at noon. Please remember that masks are required for all passengers riding a bus. Post-game buses will leave U.S. Bank Stadium 15 minutes after the game, and adults will help direct students from U.S. Bank Stadium to the bus parking location.

 

Update: November 5

The Red Knights defeated Cloquet-Carlton 3-0 in the Class AA State Semifinal match. BSM dominated the field throughout the duration of the game. The first goal of the game came from Elizabeth Dietzen '22 in the 15th minute. The next two were scored by Kiya Gilliand '24 in the 33rd minute and 69th minute. The student section, pep band, and BSM fans brought a lot of energy to U.S. Bank Stadium as they cheered the team to victory.

The team is fueled up for State Finals against #3-seed Mahtomedi as they look to capture a fifth state title for the BSM girls' soccer program. Captain Elizabeth Dietzen '22 says, "This is our year. We have so many starting seniors who are returners. We really want to get it done this year." The championship game will take place at U.S. Bank Stadium Saturday, Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. Tickets are $14 for adults and $9 for students and must be purchased online at the MSHSL website before the game. Update: November 6

The Red Knights captured second place at State after a tough fight against Mahtomedi in the Class AA State Finals of the MSHSL Girls Soccer Tournament with a final score of 3-1. Sydney Drees '22, assisted by Ava Wagener '22, scored for the Red Knights.

Three BSM players were named to the Wells Fargo All-Tournament Team: Avery Richardson ‘22, Elizabeth Dietzen ‘22, and Kiya Gilliand ‘24.
