BSM Boys' Basketball Coach, John Moore, Retires After Successfully Leading Program for 24 Seasons
On May 29, BSM Boys' Basketball Coach, John Moore, officially announced his retirement after 24 years of coaching and leading the Red Knight boys' basketball program. Coach Moore wraps up his Red Knight coaching career having accumulated 11 conference titles, 3 section championships, 3 state championship appearances, and one State 3A Championship during the 2007-2008 season. Coach Moore was also named MBCA Section Coach of the Year four times (1999, 2007, 2008, and 2010) and was inducted into the MBCA "400 Win Club" during the 2018-2019 season. Coach Moore will retire with 408 career wins under his belt and having coached many Red Knights who went on to play collegiate, semi-professional, and NBA-level basketball.
Moore, a 1974 Benilde High School graduate, has always been loyal to the BSM community and a strong advocate of the Red Knight experience. As he reflects on his coaching career, he counts himself "as one of the few fortunate ones whose avocation became their vocation." Coach Moore's involvement at BSM didn't stop with his coaching duties. Coach Moore found himself cheering from the stands and making his way through the hallways as his four children navigated their own BSM careers. BSM President, Dr. Adam Ehrmantraut, said that "John's impact on the students and adults over the past 26 years at BSM cannot be overstated. His lessons around integrity, honesty, improvement, and dedication have been mainstays as our Red Knight boys basketball coach." As Coach Moore closes this exciting chapter in his life, he is grateful for the support of the BSM community. He says that, "the school and community has had a profound impact on my life and family."
