BSM Boys’ Lacrosse Brings Home State Title

BSM Boys’ Lacrosse Brings Home State Title

Red Knights were on fire at the MSHSL Boys’ Lacrosse State Tournament June 15-19, 2021 - and they have a first place trophy to show for it!

After just one loss during the regular season, the team displayed their talent and determination in a 10-3 section win over the Blake School to punch their ticket to State where they earned a first seed placement.

Matching up against Moorhead in the Quarterfinals found BSM well-prepared for game day, beating the Spuds 17-1. Red Knights faced Stillwater in the Semifinals and came away with a win and a final score of 9-3. This brought BSM into the Championship game to play against Prior Lake - two time defending state champs to BSM’s three-time runner-ups in 2017, 2018, and 2019.

The team left it all on the field and came away with an impressive 16-6 score to clinch the State Championship Title for the fourth time in program history. Senior captain Paddy Burns ‘21 said, “Especially after coming up short the last two times, I think that made this year so much better. Our big thing this year was, ‘leave no doubt.’”

Red Knights did exactly that, outscoring the combined six postseason opponents 93-16. “We played to our full potential; kept our foot on the gas,” captain Matt Dowden ‘21 noted.

Head Coach Rob Horn is beyond proud of this team, “We aim to hold teams scoreless for at least two quarters. To achieve that goal, it takes complete buy-in and belief in the system. Our guys were all in this season.”

The accomplishments of these Red Knights goes beyond the team title. Five players were named All-American and given all-state recognition including Braxton Bogen ‘21, Paddy Burns ‘21, Matt Dowden ‘21, Jackson Leischow ‘21, and Drew Nylander ‘21. Red Knights Carson Brandt ‘23 and Justin Dalum ‘22 made the all-state second team. Read more about the All-American and all-state teams here. Additionally, Paddy Burns was named 2021 Star Tribune Boys’ Lacrosse Metro Player of the Year.

Congratulations to the BSM boys’ lacrosse team on a wildly successful season!
