Bring your Used Cell Phones to School...

The BSM Parent Association will hold a contest from January 25-27, 2012, to see which junior and senior high homeroom can collect the most used cell phones. Proceeds from the collected phones come from Shelter Alliance, the largest cell phone recycler in the United States, and directly benefit BSM programs, projects and scholarships. Shelter Alliance refurbishes usable cell phones (approximately 60% of those collected) for distribution to wireless markets worldwide in need of affordable communication, and recycles non-usable phones through a socially responsible, zero landfill environmental policy. They work with over 6,000 social service organizations, shelters, domestic violence organizations and non-profits in all 50 states, and have just reached the $10,000,000 mark in contributions to their participants since 2001.
Save your used cell phones (including batteries) for the contest on January 25, 26 and 27. (We are unable to accept chargers or other accessories, however.) At least five cell phones must be collected to win. The winning junior and senior high homeroom will each receive treats. Personal data will be erased by Shelter Alliance, or you can erase your data first by consulting your phone's menu or user manual.
Last year, BSM's cell phone collection efforts netted a check from Shelter Alliance for $1,156, our largest check to date. Let's see if we can top that this year!
Please note, there is also a gold cell phone collection box in the Main Office year round. Any phones deposited in this box are also recycled through Shelter Alliance and will benefit BSM, but will not be applied to the homeroom contest.
To date, BSM programs have received over $5,200 through this fundraiser.
Thank you for your support!
