When does school start? When's orientation?

August 4, 2011

One of the more popular questions these days is regarding the first day of school. For BSM students, the answer varies. Students who are returning to either the junior high or the senior high get an extra day of summer and will begin classes on Tuesday, August 30.

Junior high orientation (for all 7th and new 8th graders) is from 8-11:45 a.m. (this includes lunch) on Monday, August 29. Junior high parents who are new to the school are invited to meet in the theater from 8-9:30 a.m.

For 9th graders, the day will be led by our Link Crew (a group of enthusiastic upperclassmen who are excited to help new students make a smooth and positive transition to high school). All 9th graders should be at school from 8 a.m.-2:40 p.m. Senior high transfer students will need to report to BSM on Monday, from 11 a.m.-2:40 p.m. (includes lunch), meeting in the main lobby.

Freshman/Senior High Transfer Parent Orientation will be held on Sunday, August 28, from 6:30-8 p.m. Here, these parents will have the opportunity to hear from BSM President Dr. Bob Tift, Senior High Principal Dr. Sue Skinner, and Freshman Dean Nicole Rasmussen. Small group presentations and discussions with veteran parents will follow. The evening will conclude with refreshments and the distribution of student schedules.

Tuesday, August 30, will be the first day of school with the entire student body. Senior high students will receive schedules, lockers, student ID cards and planners when they arrive for an 8 a.m. start to the day. Similarly, junior high students will receive schedules and locker information on the first day. Homeroom lists for both junior high and senior high students will be posted at school so that students will know where to go. There is no school supply list for the senior high; however, students are encouraged to bring basic materials for the first day. A junior high school supply list is posted on this website under both the Students and Parents sections. All students will be issued their laptop computer during the first week of school.

The following BSM route buses: Plymouth/Holy Name (BSM 1), Eden Prairie/Pax Christi (BSM 2), Excelsior/St. Bart's (BSM 3), Mpls/South (BSM 4) and Mpls/North (BSM 5) will start service on Monday, August 29. The St. Louis Park School District bus will begin service Tuesday, September 6.

School hours for the 2011-2012 school year are 8:00-2:40 for the senior high and 8:00-2:37 for the junior high.

Also, remember that there is no school on Friday, September 2, or Monday, September 5.

Welcome back everyone! We hope you’re ready for another great year!
