Shreya Dixit was a 2006 BSM graduate who passed away a year after graduating in a tragic distracted driving incident. Shreya's parents have since started a foundation in her name to promote education for the prevention of distracted driving.

In honor of Shreya and per her parents’ request, BSM started a Distraction-Free Driving Club. The club was started shortly before Christmas this school year to bring awareness to this ongoing issue, and four Red Knights have stepped up to lead the club - Anna Carr (‘18), Erin Lerch (‘18), Maya Argenta (‘19) and Molly Paulison (‘19).

The club has already helped 149 students sign a pledge to drive distraction-free. With the help of Fran Roby, the club's adviser and family friend of the Dixit's, the goal is to have all students in the senior high make the pledge.

On Tuesday, April 11, our Red Knights had a unique opportunity to learn more about the consequences of distracted driving and how they can commit to putting an end to this important issue. Because April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, KARE11 decided to visit BSM for a special live launch their #eyesUP campaign to end distracted driving. KARE11 has made a decision to dedicate several of their broadcasts to this cause. They plan to do ongoing coverage of this issue in the months to come.

Will you make the pledge? Keep those #EyesUp #BSMProud

“Nine years ago on November 1, 2007 we lost Shreya to a distracted driver. We miss her dearly. We thank those who helped at that time and continue to support us in our resolve to build a distraction-free driving environment.” - Shreya R. Dixit Memorial Foundation
