Catholic Schools Week 2017

January 29, 2017

Today is the start of Catholic Schools Week (CSW), a tradition the National Catholic Educational Association has upheld since 1974. It is an annual tradition celebrating Catholic education and its contributions to our church and our communities all over the nation.

BSM has always reminded students each year of this special week, but former director of faith formation, Holly Hoey Germann really started the resurgence of CSW during the 2008-2009 school year. Since that year, the campus ministry have held the tradition strong, making it a week full of events and celebrations.

BSM Campus Minister, Ms. Becca Meagher who is leading this week’s events says, “I enjoy giving kids the opportunity to not just just celebrate BSM but celebrate BSM as a catholic school. I think the kids know this is a special place but this just sort of reinforces that we are special because of our faith heritage.”

Every year for CSW there is a theme. This year’s theme is, Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service, “The theme encompasses several concepts that are at the heart of a Catholic education. First, schools are communities—small families in their own right, but also members of the larger community of home, church, city and nation. Faith, knowledge and service are three measures by which any Catholic school can and should be judged,” (NCEA Website).

Viewbook_Day1-149.jpgBSM will not only celebrate this theme but also re-emphasize this year’s scripture theme here at BSM - "Let love be sincere." It comes from a passage in St. Paul's letter to the Romans, challenging every Red Knight to create a faith based community where “sincere love” guides us in our relationships.

Campus Minister, Mr. Mike Jeremiah will open the CSW mass with a different quote from Saint Paul’s Letter to the Romans - “Do not conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by the renewal of your mind that you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and pleasing and perfect.” -  Romans 12:2

“We are different here at BSM. We are not only concerned with reaching the mind, but also with touching hearts and spirits and lives. We are blessed because we are called to bring Jesus and his message into the world, a world that is much in need of him and of his message. “ - Mike Jeremiah

Thank you to the Parent Association Faith and Wellness team and the BSM campus ministry for putting on such an amazing week of celebrations. Follow our social media outlets for daily updates as we celebrate Catholic Schools Week.
