BSM summer camps offer variety

February 29, 2012

In addition to numerous sports camps being sponsored by BSM this summer, other camps are being offered to students wanting to focus on service or the arts.

New this year, Science Camp will allow students to explore the world of science with a fun, hands-on way. They’ll learn about astronomy and have the chance to view our nearest star through special solar telescopes. They’ll discover how Ancient Romans transported water and race with other campers to construct their own water way. They’ll also find out if their engineering designs are all they’re “cracked-up” to be when dropping an egg from a couple stories up. The camp will run July 30-August 2 for boys and girls entering grades 4-7.

FunInSonLogo2.jpgA Christian service camp, called “Fun in the Son,” will focus on the servant leadership qualities of Jesus. Camp will include discussions, service trips, games, art projects, music and a prayer service. This four-day session (July 23-26) is for boys and girls entering grades 6-8. Grades 9-10 can take part in a Fun in the Son II camp, which has a more intensive service focus. Camp will be led by BSM theology teacher Joel Loecken, along with campus minister Mike Jeremiah.

SummerStringsLogo3.jpgAn orchestra camp—Summer Strings—is open to students at the beginning level, as well as those who have already played a stringed instrument (violin, viola, cello, bass).  This one-week camp, being held July 16-20, will be led by Benilde-St. Margaret’s orchestra teacher Kristina Lantz and other string specialists. It is open to boys and girls entering grades 4-7.

At Drama Camp, students will explore a variety of theater-related activities including pantomime, vocal performance, auditioning skills, movement/choreography and stage makeup. A performance showcasing skills learned will be held on the final day of camp. This weeklong camp (June 18-22) is open to boys and girls entering grades 3-7, who will be under the direction of BSM drama instructor Scott Effertz.

There is also an optional camp for incoming 9th graders. Find out about this camp, called Propel, at www.BSMschool.org/propel.
