BSM Seniors Ready for Military Service

May 19, 2017

Group_Photo_2_-_Small.jpgAs we near the end of another school year, and our seniors shift their focus to college life, six students from BSM’s Class of 2017 have chosen a path of service and duty to our country. These Red Knights will be moving on to the military upon graduation.

Over the years, Benilde-St. Margaret's has had a number of graduates attend military academies or enlist in the armed services. It takes a certain type of individual to serve in such a capacity, and we are proud to help our students pursue this honorable course.

Remarkably, three students will be attending the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis. US Senators and Representatives of Congress are only allowed a small number of nominations for students across their entire state, so to have three students be nominated and accepted from the same school is an incredible accomplishment.

Congrats to the following Red Knights:

  • John Boase, United States Military Academy at West Point
  • Kameron Herndon, enlisting in the United States Marine Corps
  • Lucas Latterell, University of Wisconsin Madison, full scholarship for Naval ROTC, Marine-Option
  • Sean McCullough, United States Naval Academy
  • Maria Satre, United States Naval Academy
  • Carston Swenson, United States Naval Academy

As Senior High Principal Dr. Skinner shared, “We are so proud of these students. They have worked very hard at BSM and are well prepared to be equally successful at the next level. West Point, The Naval Academy and the Marines are getting our best and brightest, and what's even more important is that these students have a moral compass. As I think about these six young men and women as leaders, I know that our country's future is in good hands.”

Member of Congress, Erik Paulsen, echoes Dr. Skinner’s sentiments. “Congratulations to you and the entire faculty at Benilde-St. Margaret's School for the excellent education you provide …,” he wrote in a letter to the school.
