BSM Girls Swimmers Break Records At State

Five Red Knight girls swimmers qualified for the 2014 MSHSL State Meet at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center held on November 12-14. The five participants were Ava Schieffert(eighth grade),  sophomores, Maria Satre, Madison Semler and Claire Torgerson , and junior, Grace Hedin.

From the Section 2A Meet, individual qualifiers were Schieffert in the 50 freestyle, Semler in the 200 and 500 freestyle, Torgerson in the 50 freestyle and the 100 butterfly, and Hedin in the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle.  BSM also advanced in the 200 freestyle relay (1:39.64) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:38.57) where they set new all-time Section 2A records in each event.

Notable individual finishes at State included Hedin in the 100 freestyle   (9th) and 200 freestyle (10th), Semler in the 500 freestyle (10th) and Torgerson in the 50 freestyle (9th) and 100 butterfly (11th).

The 200 freestyle relay team of Claire Torgerson, Grace Hedin, Maria Satre and Ava Schieffert placed 5th in the State finals, setting an all- time BSM school record with a time of 1:38.62. The 400 freestyle relay of Hedin, Schieffert, Madison Semler and Torgerson added to the medal collection with a 4th place finish and another all-time school record of 3:36.86.

The BSM Red Knights earned enough points to finish 10th out of the 43 teams participating. Visitation was the 2014 MSHSL State team champion.
