The beginning of a new school year marks the end of summer. For one BSM employee, however, this fall marks the anniversary of her 50th year at the school. Betty Rosenow began working in the cafeteria of Benilde High School in 1961. She helped keep the boys in line back then, and can often still recite names of graduates that return to visit the school.

She has remained at the school through the merger of the boys’ and girls’ schools, and is still busy serving up pizza and keeping the salad bar stocked throughout the lunches. With no plans to retire anytime soon, she enjoys her three days per week at BSM. “It gets me out of the house.”

And Betty is not alone at the top. Doris Christensen, who works in the maintenance department, is celebrating 48 years with the school. Doris and Betty almost always take their morning break together. Six other employees have been Red Knights for at least 30 years: Steve Kahn (30), Dianne Numelin (30), Mary Fran O'Keefe (34), Sue Cipolle (35), Jim Wander (35), and Mike Jeremiah (36).
