On February 22, industrial grade 3D printer company, Stacker3D donated a 3D printer to BSM. The introduction was made by alumni-investors John Cich ('75) and Mark Ryan ('75) of their work to Engineering Teacher Kirsten Hoogenakker. In addition, other donor investors of Stacker include class of '75, Eric Turnquist, Russ Schumer, Miriam Olson and class of '07, Maggie Olson.

Always keeping in mind the BSM family, these alumni thought BSM's engineering program would be an incredible place for Stacker to start up.

"3D printing is absolutely the future. Stacker understands the importance of getting students using their product early. The more proficient students are with this equipment, the faster the technology will advance," Ms. Hoogenakker said.

BSM intends on using the 3D Printer not only for the engineering courses, but also for the new art class 3D Make It, a one semester art and design class: "This course will encourage students to develop projects that demonstrate how they can interact with the world around them. Students will apply the powers of imagination, curiosity, problem solving and risk taking to create art, engineering and technology projects. Projects may include architecture, digital drafting, design and building 3D sculptures, models and intended installation pieces."

The goal at BSM is to constantly improve teaching and learning for all students. With this 3D printer, it will promote creativity, develop student's independent learning skills and enhance the overall student experience. BSM believes that technology is a tool which expands horizons and empowers students in their learning.
