2015 Sections -- 4th Place & State Qualifiers

November 14, 2015

Senior Grace Hedin, juniors Maria Satre and Madison Semler, and freshman Ava Schieffert all saved their best performances of the season for the Section 2A Finals at St. Catherine's University in St. Paul.  The Section Meet was held November 11th and 13th.  Each of these four swimmers advanced, from individual and team relay finals, to the 2015 Minnesota State High School Girls Swim Meet.  State Meet runs November 18-20 at University Aquatics Center at the University of Minnesota.  Diving is held on Wednesday, with swimming prelims on Thursday and finals on Friday beginning at noon each day.

Hedin finished second in the individual 100 yard freestyle final with a time of 54.49, and another second place finish in the individual 200 yard freestyle final with a time of 1:57.22.  Both finishes qualified her for the State Meet.

Semler finished fourth in the individual 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.58, and she finished second in the individual 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:19.98.  Both times qualified her to advance to the State Meet.

Both Schieffert and Satre cashed in their tickets to State by qualifying in the individual 50 yard freestyle final.  Schieffert finished second with a time of 24.94, and Satre finished third with a 25.03.

All four girls continued to accumulate opportunities to rise on the medal stand as the team relays progressed.  The 200 yard freestyle relay team of Hedin, Satre, Semler, and Schieffert would swim their way to advance as Section Champions!  The Red Knights placed first with a time of 1:39.21, which set an all time Section 2A record.  This same relay team placed third in the 400 yard freestyle relay.  Their time of 3:38.21 was the fastest Section time ever for a BSM 400 freestyle relay team.  Both relays advanced to the State Meet.

Other notable performances were highlighted by Elizabeth Dickey in the 100 yard breast stroke.  She placed 6th overall with a time of 1:13.12.  The 200 yard medley relay team of Abigail Gage, Elizabeth Dickey, Malinda Beason, and Morgan Williams finished fourth.  Team members who participated in Section consolation finals were Amelia Backes, Malinda Beason, Elizabeth Dickey, Claire Donesky, Abigail Gage, Allie Lang, Camilla Shubring, Gracey Scott, Abby Sohm, Katie Sohm, and Morgan Williams.
