Carl Shaffer

Coach Carl is an active citizen ski racer and has participated in High School Nordic ski race coaching for over 10 years. The father of BSM Alumni Monica (2010) and Garrett (2011), he is familiar will all aspects of Nordic high school racing from instructing new skiers how to ski through helping top athletes race successfully to qualify for and race in the State Nordic Ski Meet and regional qualifiers for national racing. As a parent of skiers, he works to help parents understand the ins and outs of Nordic skiing. Carl understands the challenges skiers face regarding skiing, racing and managing their time commitments, and works through the issues with the skier as they arise. Carl is a Level 200 USSA certified coach and also runs a Nordic ski camp for local high schools over Christmas break.




Jim Wander
Assistant Coach

Coach Wander is the founding coach of the BSM Nordic team. Starting as a club to help cross country  and track runners build their fitness over the winter, the club became a team after expressing a desire to race. Jim brings his experience of years of teaching, attention to the details of ski form and training programs to help every athlete improve.
