Casey Nightingale breaks school record in diving
September 9, 2011
On Wednesday, September 7, senior Casey Nightingale was competing in a varsity diving meet against Totino-Grace. Going into this season, she noticed that she was getting close to the girls’ diving school record of 215.75, set by Mary Tremmel, back in 1987. Casey set a goal to beat that record this year, something she was able to accomplish by the third meet of the season. The new school record is now 222.95.
She didn’t realize her achievement immediately, explaining that the scoring system for diving is quite complicated. Luckily, Casey’s mom is a math teacher at BSM. Mrs. Nightingale did the calculations and nonverbally relayed the news below to Casey, who became “super hyper.” “I could not stop moving and jumping,” she says.
